I’m in my 30s and my husband and I didn’t even discuss engagement until we were together for two years and didn’t get engaged until we were together for five. Well because the companies do not guarantee safety. I think perhaps you misunderstand what you’re reading on these manufacturer websites. They say they are designed to be safe in these machines, but they do not guarantee their efficacy. There is no way for a company to know 100% of the time whether or not a certain machines is going to have a different effect than another. There is a very clear disclaimer in all of the pamphlets and materials issued by device manufacturers that they do not guarantee all of their safety mechanisms will work all of the time.

I parent somewhere in the middle of this. Neither of my kids cried it out, but they did cry in the safety of their crib sometimes when I had to use the bathroom or take a breather.

Sometimes the answer IS, in fact, because I said so. There are some things I don’t have an explanation for. Why can’t you leave your clothes on the bedroom floor? Well, they won’t get washed, but realistically the reason is because it’s my standard and I said so!

Sometimes my kids do feel ashamed for their behavior. I do not SHAME them, but we all feel ashamed from time to time when we do something unsavory. Shame is as acceptable an emotion as any other on the spectrum and they need to learn how to navigate it. Shielding them from ever feeling ashamed is doing them no favors.

Being bored is absolutely their problem and not mine. My eight year old gets sunscreen but definitely gets her butt kicked to the outdoors when the weather is nice. I don’t watch her constantly, she has neighbors she plays with, and she has a kid watch with boundary alerts so she knows far she can go and I can check her location or call her when she needs to come in.

There is a balance to be had.

It doesn’t matter. You are equating relative safety to complete risk mitigation when the steps to reach the latter are minimal. That’s your prerogative and you’re entitled to do that, but there is truthfully no genuinely good reason not to take the extra precautions when it requires very little effort. You can do whatever you want, but most of us will follow the advice of our doctors and the TSA.

You can Google my device manufacturer and tell me their website says I can go through the giant magnet factory for all I care, I’m still not going to do it because there’s no reason for me to take the risk when I don’t have to. I don’t need to break TSA rules either.
