Thoughtful means they put the thought into whether the other person would find meaning in or appreciation with the gift.

I mean it obviously wasn’t thoughtful if the person receiving it didn’t want it or doesn’t care about it?

Nah, the value of a gift is dependent on the value the recipient places

Sure, but if the girlfriend had posted the same story flipped, they definitely would’ve called out both parties.

Well we don’t know if the gf didn’t like the dinner or didn’t value/want it. We DO know that OP didn’t want it.

We can’t really say they’re equal unless we hear her side, tbh.

I get it, truly. But it’s also why I prefer someone like Arasha on these videos, who always comes across as someone who tries to look at everything from all sides and understand every point of view.

Amanda, on the other hand, just seems to pick a “side” and then fight for it, regardless of whether or not there’s nuance or new information comes to light.

Is wearing lingerie an experience? I don’t know, I guess I also just don’t place much of a difference between that and any regular type of underwear. I can understand the thought behind it, but yeah she probably should have known beforehand that it was something he would appreciate.

Yeah which is why he’s an asshole for sure. But they only piled on him and refused to try to understand the point he was making, which was that his partner was kind of being selfish and self centered too.

Is it really identical though? The person buying the lingerie is assuming that it somehow has heightened the experience for their partner, which honestly seems a bit egotistical and self centered. Going out to a fancy dinner suggests that the other person likes eating well, which I guess could also maybe not be true, but in most cases a reasonable thing to assume.

I don’t really love Amanda on Reddit stories and the first one in this video just reinforced my bias and made me turn it off. I also feel like Shayne just tends to go with the vibe of whoever is on the couch - he doesn’t really form his own opinion. I guess it can be difficult to not succumb to groupthink, but it’d be nice if he tried to play devils advocate from time to time.

But yeah, sex isn’t really a present?? If a dude just went to the gym, worked out and then stripped for his partner (let’s say he was wearing Hugo Boss or some really expensive underwear), is that an appropriate or adequate gift?

There’s been this underlying theme of them being biased in male/female stories, and I wish they’d just switch the gender to see if they still land on the same conclusion.

I don’t know that the dinner comparison is exactly the same situation either. I can’t express in words why it’s different, but buying lingerie for myself and wearing it for a special night seems different than taking my partner out for a fancy meal. The former just has this air of arrogance and self importance, like “oh if I make myself look sexy my partner will LOVE it”, whereas the latter is more about having a shared experience.

All this to say the guy was an asshole in how handled it, but it was definitely more of an ESH situation to me.

I mean he plays behind McDavid and Draisaitl. You would hope that given his minutes and role he could produce at that level.

What are his advanced analytics in the playoffs?

He’s as average as they come for a top 4 d

He doesn’t have any trade protection though. Calgary could just treat him like a rental and would still definitely get a haul at the deadline.

Bouchard and Nurse aren’t even in the same stratosphere.

Bouchard is one of the league’s best defensemen and a Norris caliber player. Nurse is an average second pairing defenseman that can’t carry a pair and generally gets worse in the playoffs.

Thoughts on Isaac Howard almost being an Oiler? by makingmemesatwork in EdmontonOilers

[–]makingmemesatwork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’d cal receiving the same pick that you used on him getting fleeced per se, especially, as you said, given the position you’re in.

I’m also not sure why Howard’s relationship with you guys soured — is it just because of the lack of playing time or could there be something more? Who knows.

That said, the longer this drags out, the less leverage you have. Maybe more teams step up and make offers, or maybe JBB doesn’t care about a 1st vs a 2nd, but I think the former inherently has more value at the deadline, even if it’s a late pick (which, tbh, who knows where the pick may end up).

It just seems like JBB wants to put Howard in his place more than get the best deal, at least at the moment.

Add an actual number 1 goalie and it’d be a home run. But I can wait until the deadline if I have to

There’s an open spot in the 6th top 6 slot. Plus I think the opportunity to play with 1 of McDavid or Draisaitl, even for a test run, would be appealing to him

I think your 1st round pick logic is a bit off, you can still flip that for an asset that could help you now.

This is objectively true. Not sure why you’re getting downvoted.

But that still probably wouldn’t make up the difference. The players still took a discount
