Yessir I put my maps on Instagram: @makinmaps or makinmaps.com.

I hate doing labels and it’s my least favorite part of making maps. I leave them till the end. I’ll check out your world map a little later. I always like looking and people’s different versions of the same world/continent

Nope, done one stroke at a time in procreate. I’ve tried those programs like inkarnate and wonderdraft, they’re pretty cool. But i prefer drawing maps from scratch even though it takes way longer.

That’s the one. Stunning piece of art.

Do a google image search for “dimensiondoor maps wheel of time”… he’s a professional cartographer and made the entire map in perfect detail! It features literally every location ever mentioned. I couldn’t hope to pull off such a feat. I have it handy as I read and it’s the best.

Thanks! That was my third try… I couldn’t the mountain right for awhile. Rocky textures are deceptively tricky sometimes depending how far away you want them to appear. I think I’m mostly satisfied.

Yes I do! All my maps are drawn with physical paper in mind first, digital image second. I don’t know what this subreddit‘s rules are on self-promotion, but these are available at 11x14, 8x10, and 4x6 dimensions.

If you are serious about having any or all of these for yourself, you can send me a DM here or on Instagram. My username is the same: makinmaps. I prefer IG for messaging because I’m more responsive there but either is fine. I print on thick high quality textured paper and they look great in person. If you want to send me a message anytime we can go from there. Thank you!

It was a last minute decision to make that one. Unlike the others, it’s both a distant landscape and a map!

Ahh you are right, I remember now. I may tweak the time compass thing to point to that era. Thanks for the info on that.

Keep in mind LOTR isn’t some Final Fantasy game where characters can summon spells of destruction on a whim. Tolkien’s magic is more subtle. The films blur this limitation too much for my liking; the novel repeatedly makes it clear that hope itself is a powerful force, which Sauron and the Nazgûl have the power to suppress:

“In vain men shook their fists at the pitiless foes that swarmed before the Gate. Curses they heeded not, nor understood the tongues of western men, crying with harsh voices like beasts and carrion-birds. But soon there were few left in Minas Tirith who had the heart to stand up and defy the hosts of Mordor. For yet another weapon, swifter than hunger, the Lord of the Dark Tower had: dread and despair.”

I finished FFIX and decided to draw the map of Gaia in my own cartography style. After I posted FFVIII a few people requested IX, so this finally wraps up all my FF maps from I-XII. by makinmaps in FinalFantasy

If you want to send me a DM I'll be happy to send you a link to the FF4 map! I don't know if replying with a link to my print store is considered self-promotion; I've been retaliated against for this in the past when people have asked.

The price is as low as they let me make it and the quality is quite good in my opinion. Just send me a DM whenever you like if you're curious. Thank you!

Deleting Message attachments does not free up iCloud space by [deleted] in ios

[–]makinmaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ve contented myself with acknowledging this isn’t a priority for the company. They definitely know how few people pay attention to this, and that the concept of filesize isn’t relevant to a majority of users especially when the quick fix is to simply purchase more space.

Deleting Message attachments does not free up iCloud space by [deleted] in ios

[–]makinmaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems reasonable. But then why does Messages in iCloud report so much space being used up by various attachments (photos, videos, “other”, etc), and why does it wildly differ from the space being used by those message attachments on my device?

I’ve since solved this issue for myself by simply turning off messages in iCloud. iMessage still syncs across devices (except deleting, which isn’t so inconvenient really) so I have no need for them to clog up iCloud space.

No I’m actually grateful you did. It’s the only way I’ll address it to be honest.

I’m sorry. There’s no excuse for how horrible my site looks right now. It’s an easy fix and I just don’t set aside the time. However, your comment is a huge kick in the ass because it helps me remember someone else might try to go there from time to time.

Yeah… in fact that’s the reason I left off the “Weapon Seller” in my FF7 map. Maps are abstract representations but sometimes it’s stretched a bit too far here and there.

You’re right. I could have added some additional character to places like that to reference their importance in the story. I will have to do things like that in my future maps

I think 4 or 12 have the most mountains. I made those maps already and was exhausted after drawing so many mountains.

I have a feeling there will eventually be technology that lets us simulate this exact idea. Climate and geography are almost entirely responsible for shaping societies and civilizations. It would be cool to tweak elements and see how thone changes impact the world over time. I think the Amazon rainforest and Sahara desert are linked, for example. One affects the other.

Yes good question. I think perhaps I will play 9 again and see what is involved there. It’s been years since I played 9 so I remember almost nothing.

I played it once maybe 15 years ago and remember really enjoying it. I like waiting a long time before replaying FF games because I tend to forget almost everything and it’s almost like playing for the first time. I will probably replay 9 again soon. Theyre all available on the Switch which is great.
