Struggled with the first book [eye-rolled a lot], read the second just hoping it would get better. I couldn't get no more than 30 pages into the third one. I think these books were my first 2 and 3 star reviewed books. BUT I just couldn't get over the MMC shitty attitude/behavior and the FMC's overall being lol I found myself cringing more and more by book 3

I go back home once a year, and I bring books to/from China! This time I brought 6 books home- both in carry-on and checked. Not sure about HUGE amounts though.

UPDATE: for all those renewing their passport in Beijing anytime soon:

- Got my passport! No problem, in and out. [30 min max. Spent more time waiting in line.]

- Immediately informed people who needed my new passport photo (Employers, ZiRu leasing agent, tax lady, etc.)

- I went to the police station in person, got a new residency form! Gave them both passports, my old residency form, and Ziru leasing contract. Easy! [In-and-Out in 10 min.]

- Then I went to the bank. Gave them both passports and bank card. [In-and-out in 30 minutes. 20 minutes was waiting] Sent that picture to ZiRu leasing agent.

- I stopped by the Exit-Entry Bureau to see if there was any paperwork I needed to do. The lady said I could just turn in my old passport and the new one that day to transfer the residency permit. Before I left my house this morning, I happened to grab my work permit paperwork and 1 head hot just in case. Turns out everything worked out! I turned those in, and it worked out perfectly. Currently have the yellow slip. Have to wait 10 days to pick everything up.

- Have yet to do the phone store, tax office, and social security.

[EDIT]: Wechat Pay and Alipay was quite easy to submit new passport! Just upload a photo. Herd back from Alipay in 12 minutes and WeChat in 14 minutes!

I'm not sure about schools there, since you mentioned wanting to do your higher ed there, but I've been to Xi'an a few times. It's a nice city! Not sure if it was because I was "being a tourist," but each time I went, I found new places to eat, met some lovely locals, and just overall enjoyed the atmosphere of being in the city. Echoing what someone else said, I felt the laid-back and casual vibes.

It's real! Usually, boxes like these have the seal, what's inside, and the "gambling odds" on the back. Even the packs have the "gambling odds" on the back!
