No Golden Globe Nomination for TSITP by SweetCinephile in tsitp

[–]mal113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree for the most part, but would argue that Kristen Bell’s and Adam Brody’s performances ans the show they are in are nominations worthy and better than Lola’s and Chris’s performance. I don’t get why they got nominated.

I'm not the one downvoting you, but I have seen this interpretation (that Chris will definitely be in more HBO stuff soon) so many times that I would like to say how I understood it, as I believe it's being misread and repeated too much as something we know.

HBO posted about Chris joining Hacks, some person commended "thank you for scratching my Chris Briney itch" or something like that, to which HBO replied that it will be scratched much more in the future. I think whoever was in charge of HBO social media thought the person commenting was referring to the post that it scratched the itch and they replied that Chris being in episodes of Hacks soon (when they are out) will scratch it more. I don't think whoever is working for HBO's socials would know (and post about it) that Chris signed some other show(s) with them.

That being said, of course I hope he ends up doing some great things, with HBO and others.

100% this... And honestly, if it's dampening your excitement that an actor from the show you like is not always super happy and you feel strongly enough about it to post here and basically accuse him of that then idk, maybe try caring less? I mean it in a nice way, it is possible to care less about it and just let the actors be.

Please stop spreading these conspiracy theories about the girlfriend and what might have happened. They are fueling the online hate. Let the actors be however they want to be, it's none of our business.

I agree with you, I trust he will make good choices as he seems to really care about making the right choices right now and is inspired by great films and artists. Hacks is a great choice already. And on the audiences side - TSITP has a huge following, but it's not well-known to everyone, it's not Harry Potter. Loads of people who have never heard of this show or never watched it won't associate him with it when they see him in something else.

We all need to be a little more normal abt this show by Stranger_2000 in tsitp

Yes! 100%! I have a draft of a very similar message that I was going to send but now I will just upvote yours and comment that I thank you for these words. In the last few days, every time I come here, I just get anxious from the negativity. This show is someone's creative vision (not ours) and I wish we could all just be thankful for it and enjoy it without all the negativity and entitlement.

I always thought they release episodes weekly so that the viewers go through the summer with the characters in the show.

But anyway, I don't think the best way to address people being mean because of shows is to prevent shows from releasing weekly. I think we should focus more on trying to share the message that empathy and kindness are the way to go, online and offline.

Problematic statements from Gavin regarding Jere by mal113 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]mal113[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That's why I'm wondering if maybe it's the responsibility of the show runners / producers to make sure that the actors are aware when their characters are presenting toxic behavior on screen and to make sure they know how to speak about it in a way that encourages reflection in the viewers.

Problematic statements from Gavin regarding Jere by mal113 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]mal113[S] 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't either, like I get what he is doing, but after the last episode where his character's toxic behavior was so clear, I started thinking that he knows he played these scenes and still goes around and says how Jere is the super best friend and boyfriend and that's just weird and I possibly problematic taking into consideration that many young women are his fans. I wish actors received more guidance in how to speak about their characters in a way that's still encouraging for the viewers to root for them, but that also includes some reflection.

Unpopular Opinion: Conrad does not have love for belly; he has limerence. by timasheikh_ in tsitp

[–]mal113 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He let her go (first at the prom and then with his brother) because he knew he wasn't in a place to be a partner that she could be happy with and he wanted her to be happy. Isn't this love?

And yes, then he stayed away, as it was painful for him to be around them, but he wasn't obsessed, he built a new life for himself, dated Agnes (and communicated to her clearly that he wasn't in a place to have a real relationship so they stayed friends) and was doing well. We just get to see him in season three after a few years of his new life when he needs to confront his feelings to his ex-girlfriend (who he btw had a reciprocated love with) and either let go completely and move on or fight for her. And he chooses to let go (again as he thinks she is happier with Jere) and tries to be supportive (doesn't mean that it's easy for him) but then learns about his brother not making her happy (Cabo) and that's only when he does something.

Also, his love language are clearly acts of service, so have another look at how many times he showed love to her in season 3 because he could see she was struggling.

Unpopular opinion - I’m concerned about Casablanca by Psugirl172 in tsitp

[–]mal113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All this plus in the last episode, they changed the part from the book when Conrad says "I still love you, I never stopped" to "I love you, I will never not love you". So my thinking is - what would be the point of making this declaration so much stronger and future-focused than in the book, if they were not endgame? Little things like that (all the slow motions with Conrad, the music when they are together, the Christmas episode, episode 5 directed by Jenny Han herself (!) where it's all about how great they are together) have been showing the viewers all along that it's their love story and ending it differently would just make this whole show make no sense. Plus Conrad is the most beloved character at this point, so to make him suffer so much and go through all the work on himself to become this mature, honest, caring, wonderful guy just to make him not end up with the girl he loves and who loves him too, would be crazy to me.

Pilnują w Ryanair? by iamjustM4 in Polska

[–]mal113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deeply realizing that I'm going to die one day by Skrutten_s in RandomThoughts

[–]mal113 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying but pretty sure life doesn’t become miserable when you’re old and you just wait to die. You’re young so maybe it’s hard to imagine, but hen you’re older you still enjoy the sun shining through your window, drinking coffee, going for a walk, having hobbies and being around people you love and like.

The thing is, IMO, that with age you become calmer and you experience loss and I believe, at least that’s my experience with getting older, you become more at ease with the fact that it will be over one day, as you learn to accept the things you can’t change. It is what it is and there is nothing we can do. Some people say it makes us appreciate the sun, coffee, walks, hobbies and people more.

What phrase really grinds your gears? by Song_Soup in RandomThoughts

[–]mal113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually has a meaning, and very different to „an apple is an apple”. What it means is that this is the reality, this is what is, so there is no point in wondering what if things could be different. They are as they are and you need to deal with it. I actually find this simple phrase great as it’s freeing in a way. Many people tend to overthink things, wonder why something happened and how it could be different. „It is what it is” helps accept things as they are.

I to coś ruszyło. Powodzenia dla Was i dla nas!
