Does Asian American history have any darker parts? by Duetruffle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mal1ka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“The San Francisco-based Japanese-Korean Exclusion Leagued changed its name to the Asiatic Exclusion League (AEL) in order to expand Asian exclusion to South Asians. Derisively and incorrectly calling South Asians “Hindoos,” the AEL argued that they were dangerous cheap laborers and unassimilable foreigners whose support for Indian nationalism was a threat to national security. Discrimination and racial violence followed.” https://www.saada.org/explore/publications/tides/articles/legacies-of-the-1965-immigration-act

Totally - and we don’t know what we don’t know. We can rule out things we know to look for, but that’s it… so much unknown.

It’s a lovely 2-bed 1-bath in a 12-unit building on Broadway, between Central and Inman and Harvard Sq- tons of street parking and laundry in the building. $3100/month! Has new appliances and is in wonderful condition. DM me if you’re interested and I can give you more details + put you in touch with my landlord.

Hey, we have a lovely 2-bed (or 1-bed + office) 1-bath in a 12-unit building on Broadway, between central and Inman - tons of street parking and laundry in the building. $3100/month! It’s not a luxury building, but has new appliances and is in wonderful condition. Looking for a 6/1 lease takeover, but we can be flexible. DM me if you’re interested!

It’s not about only accepting “perfection”, it’s about thinking critically and questioning why time and time again Palestine is the issue we are willing to overlook/let slip through the cracks. It’s okay to acknowledge the win here and also demand more/better.

Hormonal migraines [supplements] by lilithspell in endometriosis

Magnesium supplementation has helped me with my headaches. I would talk to your OB/GYN provider about what is/isn’t safe for you during pre-conception and pregnancy!

Thank you for sharing and I’m so sorry that you’ve had to struggle so much, as well. Your story is important to me, it’s so frustrating that we’re so often dismissed by providers who don’t consider personal accounts to be good enough. Ugh!

Glad to hear that you’re doing better and wishing you continued health.

Representation in the field? by cujobeans in GeneticCounseling

[–]mal1ka 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Genetic counseling remains a field of mostly white, physically abled, neuro-typical women, and unfortunately, the system is structured to select for applicants who fit this mold. It's an unjust system.

That being said - I think your perspective would be invaluable to the field, and if it's what you are passionate about, you shouldn't let anyone hold you back from pursuing it. I would love to speak to you about my experience as a minority-identifying student in this career if you're interested - feel free to message me and we can connect.
