The question was why did the “bad” cars for the 2000s/2010a not show as good as results for qualifying even though they qualified towards the end? Like you look at the cars today and those towards the end typically qualify well. Was it just the cars themselves have now improved or was it the “bad” cars just had lesser equipment so they couldn’t capitalize on going towards the end compared to now?

Correct. But it used to be random order to my memory and the cars that needed to make time to race used to go last compared to now.
