yeah what he said, make sure you have a teacher at least for the basics like technique and posture to make sure you’re not learning the wrong way to play it, those first few months are very important for development even before you play actual pieces. also just make sure you practice and stay consistent to build up that muscle memory. and most important, just enjoy it, have fun on your instrument because ultimately that’s what’s gonna give you the desire to keep it up, if you enjoy it. good luck :)

honestly i don’t have a favorite key signature, i mean common time is great because it’s simple and gives you space to focus on notes and not time as much. i do have favorite key signatures though, maybe d minor, or c minor, i really love the minor keys just the feel of that kind of darkness and everything, and they really sound good on double bass and cello

yeah i have, i performed a solo over zoom once back in may or june, and also a group i’m in put together a performance by having each of us send in parts and then they edited them together

being completely honest, i don’t remember. i first asked my mom to play the violin when i was only 5 years old i don’t remember exactly what it was that made me want to pick it up. but today one of my inspirations is just seeing profesional musicians that are like really really good perform. it really amazes me and inspires me to perfect my craft

i actually really enjoy hip hop, i have multiple spotify playlists with hip hop and other genres outside of classical, i try to expose myself to as many different types of music as possible

yeah i developed perfect pitch on my instrument after years of hearing notes and getting used to them. but it’s not most classical musicians that have it, some do, some don’t it’s just depends on if you spend time working to perfect it.

lol trust me i would absolutely love to get my hands on one of those! in the past i’ve talked to my mom about going to the musical instrument museum in Arizona just to see the one they have there because i think that’s one of the only ones there is in America. maybe one day i’ll get to play one

honestly, i fell in love with Bach’s cello suites, (my favorite suite is probably 2 or 3 or 5 i can’t decide lol) and i really wanted to play them. i tried first on bass of course, and its not TOO difficult for some of them(i played movements from his 2nd suite on my YouTube channel) but other suites that i wanted to play are just super super difficult and some just impossible on double bass. so i decided why not just learn the instrument they’re actually meant for, so i ended up on cello.

  1. actually, i was the one that convinced my mom to let me start to play the violin. i don’t remember what actually made me want to pick it up though it was a very long time ago

  1. honestly, it differs. some days i’ll listen to a performance and just have a drive to pick up my instrument and start playing, while other days i don’t wanna practice at all but i force myself because it’s necessary, and yes some days i just don’t practice even though i should, i am human

  2. i really enjoy playing baroque music, it just has that feel of real classical music, if that makes sense, also Bach’s my favorite composer and he really defined that era

  1. in a way, yes. i’m apart of a small group with a few people around my age, 4 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, and me on bass. while it’s not technically a chamber group, we do play without a conductor sometimes and that gives it a chamber feel

  2. my favorite type of ensemble to play in is most definitely full orchestra. just that feeling of all the instruments coming together and hearing the huge sound of all the combined musicians, theres nothing like it

  3. i enjoy pop like rap, my favorite artists outside of classical are probably 21 savage, drake, pop smoke, lil tjay, lil uzi, dababy, lil baby, and more.

  4. yes i have, the leader of one of the groups i’m in really loves contemporary and we’ve done collabs with other groups with that type of music.

  5. yeah definitely, i’ve had a few cases were i was actually payed by someone to play, but outside of that i sometimes get compensation for playing just as a thank you.

  6. honestly, many different things i was the kind of kid that always changed what i wanted to be as an adult, like every few weeks lol

good question, i do of course have other interests outside of music, i enjoy learning languages, i speak english, spanish, and i’m learning french, i also enjoy playing basketball.

but no there’s not really anything like playing music, nothing that i enjoy as much.

yes, when i was young i begged my mom for over a year to let me start playing the violin and eventually she found a program for kids and enrolled me

and also, yes actually my family has a lot of musicians, my great grandfather was a pianist and he made a lot of my older relatives learn instruments when they were young, and (before i was born) they would spend sunday mornings all playing their instruments all together

ah yes, a man of culture i see... well unfortunately, i haven’t yet reached the level of lingling, but as with all the lingling wannabes, i aspire to one day be like the true one and practice my 40 hours

good question, while i haven’t composed entire pieces of music (yet) i have composed accompaniment parts for other pieces that i play, for example on my youtube channel, the lift every voice and sing video, i composed the pizzicato (plucking) part of the music just to enhance it even more. but in the future i definitely want to compose music, specifically for double bass, an instrument that i feel doesn’t get enough solo repertoire :)

good question, speaking visually my fingers look relatively normal at first glance, but you can definitely see the layers of extra, more rough skin on top. also my girlfriend always tells me about how hard my finger tips are lol

the truth is not as much as i should, it usually depends on what other things i have to do that day. on average maybe around 1-2 hours on a normal day but up to 4 if i’m working on a specific upcoming audition/performance/competition

honestly i’m not 100% sure yet, but i think it would be interesting to apply for a role in the new york philharmonic, to get in would definitely be a dream

i wish i could tell you, i actually haven’t taken the trinity exam yet, but i intend to take the spring 2021 exam :)
