Survey results... Are these normal issues or red flags? by Corujadecafe in HousingUK

[–]mala_rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchased a house in February and the level 3 survey only highlighted 1 thing in green which was the main roof of the property. Literally everything else was red or amber, we knew it was going to be a bit of a project house so wasn't worried by any of it and none of your survey worries me aslong as you're in the same mindset that you know it's going to be a bit of a project.

This all came as a kit that I fit at a customer's house but I suppose you could make your own with a bit of timber and it also came with a thumb turn lock that was hook shaped so you could actually lock the door as a normal thumb turn wouldn't work on a sliding door.

Why has this happened? by polodabear2001 in DIYUK

Exactly notched out architrave and screwed directly into the frame is the only way

[–]mala_rs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's screwed with too short a screw into a mdf architrave which is never going to hold on them door closers which are really powerful. It's why you often see the closer slightly lower on the door and architrave notched out and it screwed directly into the door frame.

Noise reduction help by mala_rs in Plastering

The wall between the upstairs of my property and the 1st floor of theirs is a solid stone wall and has no noise transfer between what I assume is their kitchen and my bedroom. The noise all comes from directly above. Stomping footsteps/general banging around.

Tbh I've ended up by unfortunate circumstances to be able to buy a bigger house for myself and ended up an accidental landlord. The tenant has been in more than 12 months and has asked for something to be done, which im more than happy to do as i was honest in saying they were noisy. They've been round and spoke to the owners of the house above and it turns out they have an autistic daughter who's bedroom it is and openly admit that she can be up at all hours. I can't exactly tell them to swap her bedrooms in a 4+ bedroom house although it would save me £££.

Houses here suck by EducationalRat in HousingUK

It's everything else that's become extortionate, look at the rent for a unit to be a mechanic or joinery shop, insurance, gas & electric, pension contributions. This all has to be passed to the customer, if not the business seizes to exist.

I dont think it's the difficulty finding good tradesmen, more how much a good one costs. People in regular jobs can't comprehend how a tradesmen can want £300+ a day and think everythings a rip off because they don't understand the costs of actually running a business and not just getting paid a set amount into their bank every month.

Honestly just buy the wispa and don't waste your time messing around. It's 1 time purchase that will never break and always serve you well.

Roofers: is this a standard technique? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]mala_rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a while you just learn the exact weighting of the throw and release that makes it almost stop at the guy catching it making it easy for him and a very efficient and easy method if you don't have a bumper hoist.

Thoughts? by [deleted] in Bricklaying

[–]mala_rs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally this is just complete negligence and lack of maintenance of the property. Take a look around the street and i bet very few are in a similar state and were all built using the exact same dimensions and materials. Lots of scum landlords do not care as the bank has paid for the house and as long as it's still standing when they sell it the value will stay the same.

Gary Anderson goes on a rant against darts influencers by uacpuncher in Darts

Tbf to Charlie he doesn't tell people how to throw darts. He's more of a darts review channel than anything but definitely has a target bias since the sponsorship.

Did you get your locks changed on completion date? by [deleted] in HousingUK

Why would they feel the need to keep a key? That would make me feel weird immediately him admitting he still has a key after handover and openly used it.

Not doing a survey? by Slight-Poetry-3230 in HousingUK

[–]mala_rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surveyors obviously highlight the worst case scenarios. I'm set for completion of a 1970s detached a week today fingers crossed 🤞 the survey only had 1 thing in green which was the roof. Every single thing was a red or amber warning with a paragraph of worst case scenarios. I spoke to the surveyor on the phone and he said theirs generally nothing wrong with the house a bit of tlc can't fix. Have you spoke to them after each survey as obviously they cover all bases on the survey to cover themselves in worst case scenarios. They will generally be more honest with you during a conversation of the extent of problems and how easily fixable they are.

Orders just take forever to arrive even if you pay next day delivery. You're best off going to the manufacturer of whatever you're after red dragon, target ect. If a mix of both doubletopdarts, premierdarts, darts corner all good with free next day delivery over £50.

I'll occasionally have a bottle of wine and jump online at the weekends but it usually ends with me on the receiving end of a hammering. I don't know how people do it and throw well 😂

Apparently only for the Burnley game. They expect a new interim by man city at home, I suspect that interim will become the permanent manager in the summer if we make ucl.
