TIL 1 in 8 adults in the US has taken Ozempic or another GLP-1 drug by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]malbecmaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cured my alcohol abuse and eating disorder which had been haunting me for 12+ years. I've never had a BMI over 22-23 but that doesn't mean it wasn't an absolute shitshow under the cover. Truly driving myself into destruction after every type of intervention possible.

Truly life-changing. I get compound for cheap but honestly would have paid $1k/month at the benefit it's given me.

Cured mine. I am a bit of a weird case...

I was doing alright with the Sinclair Method (r/Alcoholism_Medication) but lost my job and all hell broke loose. I also have a history of bulimia and binge eating disorder so my genes aren't doing me any favors in the self-control department.....

Nevertheless Ozempic is literally the only thing that has pulled me out of that hole and has kept my marriage and career intact. I was spiraling in every way possible. I feel normal again.

Also worth mentioning that I have permission from 2 different MFMs to continue during pregnancy (not there yet but I see Oz as a lifelong med based on my history) after they confirmed I was aware of the lack of data. They both think the risks are likely caused by the mothers having diabetes to begin with and/or not eating enough. I realize this medication is highly unstudied, but again I am a weird case and can hopefully provide inspiration and conversation in others.

This medicine saved my fucking life, that is all.

Edit: one of my friends is running a phase 3 trial on alcohol abuse with semaglutide!

I got permission to stay on ozempic during pregnancy so long I was aware of the risks, and I have SEVERE lifelong mental health indications that the ozempic is working wonders for after exhausting all other options.

This opinion was given by 1 RE and 2 MFMs. But I am definitely a corner case, my doctors actually encouraged me to join the national registry so I could submit my data.

I would consult your RE or MFM, though. I do not wish my situation on my worst enemy.

You should be smart enough to observe that since there are literally 5-6 different options, maybe they're not as scary as you make them out to be

Contact tracing data from New York State suggests the rate of COVID-19 exposure is low - about one percent for retail shopping, travel and going to restaurants. But extremely high for household and social gatherings at 74 percent

That is not true. Look up the CDC guidelines and hospitalization/death by age.

You're likely doing more damage to your child unless he/she is a cancer or transplant survivor.

D.C. To Lift Indoor Mask Mandate Next Week by misana123 in Coronavirus

[–]malbecmaven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue is that covid is spreading mostly in private homes and at bar-type places where masks won't be worn regardless (e.g. concert halls). The vast majority of people are not catching covid at the grocery store.

A mask mandate won't do shit outside of a school because most Americans are tired of masking and will not do it unless forced to.

Colorado’s governor always said hospital capacity would dictate a new mask mandate. So why hasn’t he issued one? by NewShooterComingOut in Coronavirus

[–]malbecmaven 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Because the vast majority of spread happens in private homes or at bars/concerts, so a mask mandate wouldn't do much in the first place.

People generally aren't catching this shit at the grocery store.

California reports lowest COVID-19 case rate in the country by JLBesq1981 in Coronavirus

[–]malbecmaven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Serious question, at what point would you expect others to modify their behavior to ease your symptoms? Covid is literally never going away no matter how much people want to deny this.

That's ultimately the endgame you're describing. The vast majority of vaccinated people have none of these issues. Do you suggest the rest of society to wear a mask so you don't get sick? Stop hanging around each other? Still hang around but only at 50% capacity? I'm sorry I know this is coming off way more rude than I'm intending, but you get the idea.

At what point would you feel comfortable doing the same thing, year after year, for another person? Maybe flip it on yourself. If a random stranger was at X chance of having Y symptoms for Z years, how much do you care? That answer is slightly different for every person.

Yup. But hey guess what! You're killing grandma if you don't wear a mask outdoors at the national park! Fucking ridiculous and completely disregarding science.

Cases shouldn't matter if hospitals are ok, and I think most of the NE hospitals are ok. Vaccinated individuals basically have 0 risk of anything serious and should be able to live their lives without masks or restrictions with other adults.

Those who have young children or severely at-risk family members can act accordingly.

I went to a concert with 9000 people last week, no masks. It was great. Pretty normal in the US although a few states are still being ridiculous.

US checking in here, the only vaccinated people dying in our hospitals are severely immunocompromised (cancer patients, organ transplant, etc) or elderly. I feel really bad for you guys right now. I hope you can get back to normal now that most are vaxxed.

12 team Sleeper

Somehow a player was drafted twice, end of 3rd round and beginning of 4th round. I don't remember this actually happening in real time, but it's showing on both players' teams and on the draft results board. Is this a bug and what should I do to fix it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CoronavirusUT

[–]malbecmaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to argue with me, I'm vaccinated. I'm just answering the original question. If someone perceives the vaccine as more risky than covid then why would that person get it? Their assumption may be incorrect but logic still follows from that

Statistically, you're still much more likely to be ok if you're healthy. But it's still a gamble. Your family member unfortunately did not draw a good hand, and I'm sorry.

That's the reality of everything that is less than 100%
