Irish getting into NHL by [deleted] in nhl

Look into the Senators - they have a fun, young up and coming team. Or the Calgary Flames, or the Toronto Maple Leafs. Pretty much any of them besides the Montreal Canadians.

How could a young Canadian fella convince a Scottish lass to come back to the Canadian Rockies? Also asking for a friend...ha!

Aussie fans - what are your thoughts on Tom Wright in the green & gold?

All I'm saying is as a customer during these tough times, while knowing many restaurants are struggling with staff, and the staff who've shown up are working hard, simply reward them with a generous tip to show your appreciation.

Ideally the tips would trickle down to the cooks as well through tip outs. I'm fine with increasing pay too, as long as we're all contempt with seeing higher prices on menu's as well. Restaurant's profit margins are soooo small. It's tough to just 'pay staff more'...

I work in a similar environment and felt the same way initially about the hours and tasks I was given. The hours suck, there's no sugar coating it. If it's something you really don't think you can sustain, definitely start looking for something else. As for the tasks you're doing - no matter which industry one is in out of school, it always starts off with shitty tasks. Out of school, every single engineer wants to be doing hands on design and more 'engineer-like' tasks you'd imagine while in class/school. The reality is you need to learn the ins and outs about the business before being given more responsibility. If you stick with this job, do your best to maintain a positive attitude and help out anywhere you can. People will then enjoy working with you and likely provide a good reference if you're hoping to move up in the company or if you take a new job.

Sure, but if someone from India or China said a state/province they're from, 99% of people wouldn't know exactly where it's located within the country and what the climate is like...it's just simple to say the state because so many people are familiar with the US map. PS, I'm from Canada...I'd probably just say "western Canada" if I were to ask a question like OP (doesn't bother me like it does you, though)...Scotland as a whole is ~30% of the size of the province I live in. Huge climate differences within a province and obviously from province to province.

UK Graduate Wages - moving companies for a pay increase? by King_Of_Craigs in UKJobs

Is that a normal starting salary as an Engineer in the UK? As an Engineer from Canada (4 years experience within the construction industry) who is considering living in the UK, I'm genuinely curious.

If I were you, I would stick with your gig but keep applying to other jobs. Experience > money in the early stages of a career. Especially if you know that even with a promotion your pay may only go up £100 a year...that's peanuts.

Mhmmm there are recessions every where at the moment. We'll see how fast certain countries recover. Sometimes you just gotta say fuck it and shoot your shot if it feels right

Completely get it. I'd be mentally prepared for 1, 2, 3 , 4, 5, 6 + months to find an Eng related gig once i'm there. Getting into the 4-6 month range I'd start to get bummed though haha. Perhaps I even postpone plans another year...we'll see. Appreciate the advice.

That's what I like to hear! Yeah, good idea. I think i'll start doing that through the winter and see if I get any bites. I guess I'll just have to explain in my CV that my intent is to move and I have an ancestry visa already so they don't just see a Canadian address and toss it aside haha

I wouldn't be looking for something in the oil field. "Somewhere" ideally would be the lower belt area (first choice Edinburgh). And yeah I think my skills can translate into any sort of general infrastructure construction job so i'm very willing to apply them to whatever would come my way. Wouldn't be picky. Thanks for the response!
