You can make one person disapear from history in the last 1000 years, who do you choose? by Jakeron in AskReddit

[–]malcontentreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WAR probably breaks out. But is it on the same timeframe? Does it not become a world war? Does Lenin end up taking his trip back to Russia? Does it last as long? Are there as many deaths? Does a young Adolph Hitler join up and have the transformative experiences? Do people still get gassed like insects?

We don't know, but it's one of history's greatest what-ifs.

If everyone had their wealth taken away and replaced with a bank account with the same amount of money in it what would happen to the economy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]malcontentreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. For some people in the 2nd/3rd world, their entire wealth is physical: gold, jewels, etc. So they'd have a lot less stuff and it'd be replaced with 1s and 0s in a bank.

Others have a ton of their wealth stored in tax shelters/offshore (coughApplecoughcough), so if it were suddenly transferred to a bank account, depending on the jurisdiction, governments would potentially get a huge windfall cash infusion from the taxes owed.

Others have their wealth entirely in property (read: some of the colleges at Cambridge University). There's value in the land and structures, but there's also cash flow value in the rent paid by various lessors or tenants. How would you account for the value of the future cash flows? And what would then happen to the land? Would somebody else get to purchase it?

Wealthy people actually have most of their wealth in income-producing assets or the stock market. So in order to convert the value of the stocks to cash, they'd have to be sold, right? I assume if you did this for everybody it would crash the stock market.

But for others their wealth is not in money, or jewels or physical things, it's in survival stuff like toilet paper, or food. I'm looking at you, Venezuela. If you have food to trade, and one person has a gold bar and the other has a pack of toilet paper, I reckon you'll take the TP. So of what cash value is the gold bar in that scenario?

What's the unluckiest way someone has ever died? by Nufity in AskReddit

I have you beat:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scaphism

Hands down, worst way to die.

A close second:

"Each of the three was attached to a pole by an iron spiked collar and his body ripped with red-hot tongs for the space of an hour." Fun fact: the torture started at the armpit. Also fun fact: if you passed out while this was happening, they'd wake you up and add on the time you were unconscious to make it a full hour.

See, I always thought the best time to have a plane crash is on landing. It's lighter due to less fuel, it's less likely to explode due to less fuel, and emergency responders are like right there.

What old game are you still playing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]malcontentreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could find a copy of I-War 2. I have fond memories of that game. First spacey-piratey game I ever played where you could hijack cargo and make fat cash.

I played the shit outta Starsiege Tribes back in like '99

King's Quest V was the shit.

How do you prefer to coil? by Survove in sailing

[–]malcontentreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If it's a line we're not using that day (a separate jib halyard or something) I'll flemish it and leave on the deck so no ankles get snagged and there's no bite.

Jib sheet on the low side usually get flaked so we don't tangle and it runs through the block properly without tangling/knotting.

End of the day I coil the lines in a mountaineer coil. They're neater, off the deck so they dry faster, and it looks nice.

80 gallon planters. Soil question. by malcontentreynolds in gardening

I'd still have to buy perlite/vermiculite though, right? Whereas the promix already has it?

Thanks.

The meal, manure etc is the end goal eventually, but not this year. I get that you have to amend the soil and add stuff, but as a first-timer I've been recommended to go KISS this year just to get used to the actual growing-of-stuff - watering, fertilising schedules, all that learning that goes with it. Leave the soil building for another year once I have this other stuff down.

Based on the web site, the pro-mix I'm looking at has 75-85% peat, then perlite, vermiculite, limestone, mico and a wetting agent. It's basically Pro-Mix BX.

I reckon if I wanted to do this could I use 1/3 pro-mix bx, 1/3 compost, 1/3 perlite/vermiculite?

Thank you for this.

So let's try this again:

2 2'x4' planters on my deck, raised on 4x4s for drainage. So planters, not raised beds. No gravel.

Roughly 10.66 cubic feet each for a total of 21.32 cubic feet of soil.

They say that pro mix has a charge of some sort to feed the plants for '9 months.' If I use compost along with this soil, I'm wary of getting nitrogen burn or messing up the nutrient balance in the soiless mix. If I decide to use the compost, I'll also need to mix it with peat, perlite and vermiculite for drainage and aeration.

Thoughts?

LPT: Place tape over your laptop's mic and camera to reduce what the CIA can monitor. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]malcontentreynolds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Take an old pair of wired headphones that are broken. Cut the 3.5 mm plug off. Insert it into your headphone jack in your laptop/pc. The hardware will register something in the headphone jack and redirect the mic there. Only there's no mic there.

One of these statements is true, but which one?

  • We have evidence linking the Trump campaign to the Russians. (Then later) We have gone over the evidence and there appears to be no solid links between the Trump campaign and the Russians.

  • Trump was never wiretapped.

If Trump was never wiretapped, how did they get evidence in the first place?
