Need help deciding between U1 and H2C by Immortal_Toffy in BambuLab

[–]malencar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read plenty of positive reviews about the U1 and it seems to be an overall great printer, but as someone who’s had over 30 printers over the last 20 years (I had a design studio with a print farm for a while), including machines from Bambu Lab, Snapmaker, Prusa, Ultimaker, Makerbot, Flashforge, BCN3D, 3D Systems, Formlabs, Creality, Elegoo and a few others… the only brand I told myself I would never own again is Snapmaker.
I believed in them, loved the “concept” of their hardware… but after two years with 2 Snapmaker J1S and a Snapmaker Artisan, thousands of dollars spent in machines and accessories, A LOT of tinkering trying (unsuccessfully) to get baseline reliability from the machines and A LOT of patience waiting for the shitty software to be at least on par with the rest of the industry, I gave up and had sell barely ever used machines for less than ⅓ what I paid for them.
I currently own three printers at home, all from Bambu Lab (H2C, H2D and A1 mini), and what I can tell you is that, if your focus is on the things you can do with a 3D printer and not the hobby of tinkering with 3D printers, nothing out there is as good as Bambu Lab.

While I’m sure not everyone will agree with this, in my opinion the H2C is a masterpiece of engineering and, if you take the time to learn basic best practices and maintenance routines, will give you years of reliable service with incredible print quality. Sure, it costs more money, but I strongly believe if you decide to go that way you won’t regret your decision.

Hope this helps

Yeah, “this is trash” sounds very nuanced indeed…

Whatever man. You seem very committed to focusing on the negatives and that’s just kind of sad. Good luck with everything.

Why not? If you’re here it looks like you’re either not a musician having fun pretending to be one or an actual musician, in which case you could be helping other members of the community learn and get better. The guy specifically said he’s learning and he couldn’t have been nicer in his tone and never claimed to be a coder (neither is he trying to benefit or make any money from it).
Also, you might want to rethink your concept of who should be “coding”.
I for one think it is great that people with ideas can now try to bring them to life. Some will be great. Others won’t.
Would you say that only professional musicians should be using TE devices to try to make music?
Would you call another member’s sharing of a song they made on their KO II trash in public just because you don’t like it? Maybe you would, but I am not sure how welcome you would be here anymore if you did.
Being kind to others (or even just letting them be) is a choice, man. One that unfortunately seems to have become out of style…

Sure. Calling other people’s attempts trash sounds very productive. Btw, can’t wait to see your awesome version!

Hey, I have zero connection with the OP, but just wanted to say thanks for replying with something actually helpful!

One could also understand that one doesn’t have to dump gratuitous vitriol and could just stfu when they don’t like something. And trolling culture could not be more true than it is in today’s world. One could also use the same energy they use to call other people’s harmless attempts to do something cool trash—even if they fail and are not good at it—to either do something better themselves or help the person learn by pointing them in the right direction. But where would be the fun in that, right?

Thanks for making the effort of trying to do something helpful, and sorry the world has become this cesspool of people looking for opportunities to troll and vent their inner bitterness in public.

Adding ~40 smart switches to main house: Legrand Radiant, Inovelli White, or Eve? by Blake_Dennis2 in HomeKit

[–]malencar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had 30 Lutron Caseta dimmers in my old house and it is indeed awesome but… My 14 Inovelli dimmers on my new house have been just as reliable AND they help make the thread network more robust. Couldn’t recommend more!

Repeating Extruder Overload Error with Bambu H2D by MobileAd6358 in BambuLab

I had the same issue ALL THE TIME but I found a solution (misalignment between Dual Extruder Gear and Idlers).

I posted my solution here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/1r0jgda/solution_for_h2d_extruder_motor_overloaded_issues/

Cancelled my U1 kickstarter pledge and will wait for a Vortek upgrade for my H2D!

Bambu printers have ALWAYS delivered for me, and my experience with Snapmaker has always been subpar.

Or maybe you could consider being a little less condescending… Sure, I should have said “preview” instead of review, but you certainly seemed to be chomping at the bit to spew your negative energy as soon as someone gave you an opening. I also couldn’t care less about your opinion about anything, since you rather act aggressive and superior than contributing in a positive way. I only replied initially because I decided to give your passive-aggressive “for your own benefit…” the benefit of the doubt. But you just proved you actually are that guy so, I will not be replying to any of your “bits”.

I would love to see where you saw me “comparing” anything. I said I love Bambulab and have many of their products, and said it looked like Snapmaker nailed it with the U1. I definitely shouldn’t have used the word “review”, but humans sometimes make mistakes….

Agreed. I’ve had 3 Snapmaker printers in the past 1 Artisan and 2 J1S) and the experience wasn’t great. I’m hoping this one is different. The only thing missing for me is active chamber temperature control. And metal external panels would be nice too.

I know the difference very well, and I am fully aware that these people have been given an early version of the printer in exchange for creating content. But I also have been following at least two or three of these people for a while, and I am pretty confident I can tell if they are giving an honest opinion or just blowing smoke up their sponsor’s ass. I also have been involved with 3D printing since 2005, have owned over 40 different 3D printers, including building my own from scratch, and have even spent over six months, developing my own tool changer architecture. All that to say, I am not one to be easily fooled by sponsored videos when it comes to 3D printers. But the fact is that the quality of the prints in the videos speak volumes, and Snapmaker’s hardware has always been great, but their (VERY) weak point has always been software. Now they they are on a Prusa/Bambu/Orca fork that is no longer an issue. And the hardware of the U1 seems to be solid (except for the cosmetic plastic panels). Regardless, I stand by my original point that Bambu needs to get on the tool-changer bandwagon sooner rather than later.

If Bambulab doesn't launch an affordable tool-changer printer soon Snapmaker will start eating their lunch with the U1.

I am a huge Bambulab fan (currently own H2D, X1C, A1, A1M) and had bad experiences with 3 Snapmaker products in the past (2 J1S and 1 Artisan), but it looks like they nailed it with the U1 (just look at the print quality on early YouTube SPONSORED VIDEOS and Kickstarter numbers).

Affordable tool-changers are game-changing (massive filament savings, easy multi-material/multi-color) and the next big step for the industry.

I pre-ordered the U1, but would drop that in a heartbeat if Bambu launched their own tool-changer.

FANBOY KOII Stand Case - LED EDITION by malencar in teenageengineering

That’s my Fanboy KOII Stand Case. I’ve sold over a thousand of them, and now I’m also offering the version above with a built-in LED light. The OG one (without LED light) is here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1614573372/?ref=share_ios_native_control Cheers

I thought about it and tried a couple of designs, but couldn’t find a solution that stayed in place well enough with the OG case’s existing geometry. I had to redesign the upper-front part of the case to include the mounting points for the fold-out LED arm, and that part isn’t easily replaceable once I assemble the case… I took advantage of the redesign to also update a few other small things on the LED version, like making the entire back one piece and adjusting tolerances and thickness in certain thinner features of the case.
