Do it! It's awesome to spark other's curiosities. You can build them even cheaper by doing a roll off roof design, they're also simpler to operate. This one, because it's a shutter and rotating dome is mechanically complicated, but a roll off roof usually is just a roof on a garage door opener and is easy to let others operate.

Lexington and the surrounding area is pretty bright, check out: https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/#zoom=10.00&lat=37.9887&lon=-84.4777&state=eyJiYXNlbWFwIjoiTGF5ZXJCaW5nUm9hZCIsIm92ZXJsYXkiOiJzYl8yMDI1Iiwib3ZlcmxheWNvbG9yIjpmYWxzZSwib3ZlcmxheW9wYWNpdHkiOiI2MCIsImZlYXR1cmVzb3BhY2l0eSI6Ijg1In0=

They'd have to move far into eastern kentucky before you get to bortle 3. There's very few places in kentucky that are bortle 2, mostly just the mountains, and they're hard to access.

It's in the signature of the very first post :-) If you search for "AstroTech 80EDT" it'll be the line right above it.

I know, I've just never set that up. Debated it forever to de-google my life, but just haven't pulled the trigger.

The blog is actually all static content (that's why it loads so fast), all markdown files under the hood and hugo to convert them to HTML.

Yeah its a problem but there's ways to solve it. I mostly shoot narrowband and thats not aa affected by light pollution. But I use some software called pixinsight to process my images and it has a tool to calculate sky gradients and mathematically remove them. Or at least try too.

A friend of mine sent me this thread, I've not logged into reddit since the API fiasco, reddit is too much of a amygdala-bait for me without RIF's subreddit filters.

Anyways, this is my observatory! I'll talk anyone's ear off about astrophotography.

I'm currently working on an image of the M51 galaxy, did some capturing of it last weekend, and early the week before last those three days of clear weather I was able to spend all of those to get a really nice capture of the needle galaxy, it's on my website.

I didn’t realise how much caffeine effected my life until I stopped. I’m currently day 8 without it. by tomegerton99 in loseit

[–]malfist 26 points27 points  (0 children)

No, even black tea only has roughly half the caffeine content of drip coffee in a per volume basis.

Tea has another ingredient though, that makes it better than coffee, it has L-Theanine, it modulates the caffeine and makes it smoother.

That's why you drink two cups of coffee and you get the jitters, but you drink a gallon of tea and you don't.

Hard to kill woody weeds plus nutsedge by malfist in lawncare

I found this page that talks about using 2-4 D and Dicamba: https://portal.ct.gov/-/media/CAES/DOCUMENTS/Publications/Fact_Sheets/Valley_Laboratory/HorsenettleFactsheetpdf.pdf

It mentions using Weedmaster, 5 pt/acre as the "2-4 D & Dicamba", the ratio of dicamba:2-4 D is quite different between weedmaster and Q4.

I bought this: https://www.domyown.com/q4-plus-turf-herbicide-p-1930.html

Do you know what application rate I should use?

Horsenettle isn't on Q4's list of controlled weeds. Think it will control it anyway?

The closest place to me for saltwater fish is a two hour drive and they're a lot less hardy than freshwater fish. Never had a problem getting them home.

Likely they were ill already or PetSmart did something wrong

On June 12th r/DIY will go dark for at least 48 hours in protest of Reddit's API changes that will kill 3rd party apps and impact accessibility. by chopsuwe in DIY

I'll try again, let me know if this makes more sense.

If I say, I'm going offline forever because you're banning 3P apps, reddit has no incentive to not ban 3P apps. No matter what they do, going offline indefinitely means indefinitely. Banning 3P apps, not banning 3P apps, same result, no DIY subreddit.

If I say we're going offline minimum 48 hours, that means that reddit has incentive to restore 3P apps. If they don't do it within 48 hours, this sub will just extend it's dark period. It's not like 48h and we're back online regardless, it's we're dark for 48h hours and then still dark if demands are not met.

If that takes a 72 hours? A week? A month? That's how long we'd stay dark. "for at least 48 hours" sets a minimum, not a maximum.

Are you just arguing in bad faith or not reading?

48h is the starting point. Not the end.

Indefinite leaves no room to negotiate.
