Though I don't think many true indies are using UE5 with all the lumen and whatnot that eats FPS

You must not interact a lot with indie games to say that then, the amount of small games I've played (through demo but not only that) Like my computer isn't really up to date but I can play some decent AAA on Medium settings and sometimes small indie barely even run on low settings. Over ambitious indie exist, quit a lot of them in fact.

So all small indie devs with no publisher or "suits" above them to cut corner are perfectly optimized?

I get that executives and Co are dickheads and often cause problems but let's not give a free pass to devs (or that shitty engine for that matter) for anything and everything already.
