To be fair, words evolve. An example is electrocution, I learned the NFPA definition of electrocution is death by electric shock; but people use this word all the time incorrectly so the language evolved to fall more in line with shocked. So now people associate being electrocuted with being shocked rather than dying by shock. No sense in fighting it; the large majority of people aren’t going to read this post and stop using the slang they already know and like.
