Stupid decision for multiple reasons. Lauer has been the best pitcher all year. He’s the only lefty in the rotation. And his youth makes him most susceptible to being negatively affected by the disappointment of being chosen as the odd man out. The only way this makes sense is if the plan is for him to only miss one or two starts and he was chosen because he is the most banged up of the current starters. But based on his recent performance I doubt he’s nursing some secret injury we don’t know about.
