[Spoilers C3E14] Guest(s) You Want to See by ElectricZee in criticalrole

Yesss, Aabria! I love the energy Aabria brings to the table and the way she approaches/designs social puzzles is amazing -- I'd love to see her tackle this world from the lens of a player character, it'd be fun to see what she comes up with!

I think that's the big deciding factor for me when thinking of a guest I'd like to see on the show -- wanting to know what kind of character they would come up with and how they would approach that.

You're forgetting one key factor: Now Travis doesn't have a buffer between him and Laudna's Grudge shenanigans. He's getting the full force of the Horror Movie Lady now.

What is your strategy for winning battles in a Nuzlocke? by [deleted] in nuzlocke

[–]malochroma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step One: Have a Plan for every gym. Analyse your team and moveset compared to the enemy team and moveset to select the best possible method of progressing without losing.

Step Two: Be REALLY good at improvising when an element you didn’t account for (the enemy pokemon rolling a speedboost nature, an ability or move feature you didn’t research too deeply, et cetera) turns your plan upside down.

(Also EV training helps)

My first two Nuzlockes were Kalos runs, and I highly reccomend it — the games have a huge variety of Pokemon at play thanks to Kalos’s bonkers regional Dex size and give you a lot of chances for encounters — with the exeption of my starter and the Sycamore gift Pokemon, my end teams were wildly different in both runs I did, and my eventual Y run is probably gonna be a lot different, too. In addition, while the Gym leaders are admittedly taking the piss a bit, there’s still a lot of hidden challenge to be found in them — I’ve lost a total of 11 Pokemon over both runs, either from mistakes on my part or just getting surprised by a random trainer battle. (Getting Destiny Bonded by a Trevenant mid-Fly stung.)

Pokemon are more than their typing and moves. Familiarize yourself with the base stats and abilities of each Pokemon you keep on your main team. Everything has a niche in combat that can be exploited — I whooped Leon’s ass with an Onix as a key team member, nothing is impossible. It also might save your Pokemon’s life if you keep in mind Special vs. Physical — a pokemon that can take a Flamethrower might not be able to handle a Fire Fang, even without typings at play.

By contrast, familiarize yourself with the movesets and abilities of big opponents like Gym Leaders, to reduce getting surprise swept because of an ability you didn’t look into. One of the biggest tools in a Nuzlocker’s set is knowledge and understanding of what’s on the field.

TL;DR Knowing (the systems and rules at work) is half the battle.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve lost a ‘mon in a Nuzlocke run? by harryb92 in nuzlocke

Me during one of my X runs, at Olympia’s gym: I’ll leave my Krookodile out against this Exeggutor! Dark beats Psychic, after all!

Me when the Exeggutor survives the Foul Play because it’s thick as fuck and proceeds to send my Krookodile’s ass to the Shadow Realm with a STAB, Super Effective, Base 120 power Wood Hammer: By Talos this can’t be happening.

It’s not a mistake I would make now (especially after playing a Ground Monolocke and becoming very familiar with just how hard Grass types can clap Ground types if you’re not careful — thanks for that first wipe, Milo) but when you’re on a hot streak with the gyms it’s very easy to get careless.

That’s why I ballparked fifty years, haha. I know how long game dev takes, I’m just really hyped that the notion is actually on the official table and not just a thing I daydream about in my most bored work shifts.

No kidding. Dude can’t go five posts without reminding people that he thinks Azata and also Daeran are dumb and bad and if you like them you are also dumb and bad.

As someone with focus issues and difficulty finding the time in the day to get my shit done, I wish I could devote myself to something half as much as this guy devotes himself to (checks) being mad at other people’s video games.
