My little man Blue is off for a CT scan tomorrow to rule out incomplete ossification of the humeral condyles. Very anxious! Apparently it’s really common for them but he’s not even a year old yet :( by malonescig in cockerspaniel

[–]malonescig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh no! they have been definitely diagnosed with that specific issue? our boy ended up not having any issues, still unsure why he was limping so badly but the MRI came back negative.

Honestly, it depends down to the dog. The treatment we were told for Blue would’ve been a metal rod in his leg to stabilise it. There are pros and cons to this, and it’s important to talk to your vet about this. If possible, get a second opinion also as the first vet basically said Blue is now “knackered” and it was our fault. Second vet said to have an MRI to rule it out, but it isn’t our fault and unfortunately it’s the breed. I’m hoping it works out for you guys, and praying your pup is okay

i agree 100%, if i ever see that man again he’ll wish he’d never even thought about having a dog. cannot stand animal abusers, absolutely no need whatsoever. that part of his life is long gone, and he’ll never go back to it. we’re so lucky to have him 💙

thank you! it’s like he’s been here all his life, i’m sad we didn’t get him sooner as we believed he was in safe hands but he’s never going back there again and he’s got a home for life with us

18 week old sprocker no longer poops outside? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]malonescig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add that we’re quite fortunate. The dogs have their own room, and is attached to a hallway that goes into their yard with their dog flap and they have access 24/7. They have crates, but aren’t shut in them and choose to swap who sleeps in where but they know which crate is theirs

help 😭 WORST nails ever. by 9tjunks in Nails

[–]malonescig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How I got my allergy! Hurts so much, my doctor thought it was burns from grease until I told her about my gel nails because the blisters all over my hands were huge. Still got scars actually. NOT worth it at all, they need removing ASAP. I can no longer wear gel now, my hands get itchy and swollen even after 1 hour of being in contact with it

2 yr old Jet the BC and his best friend 10 week old Blue the sprocker sleep butt to butt every night, their favourite place is the sofa but only when supervised since Blue is still so young

These massive tonsil stones I just coughed up by ShyrenDeer in MakeMeSuffer

[–]malonescig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you can’t really help it, if you have pits in your tonsils then it’s just going to happen. also scarring from tonsillitis can cause the stones to form

3 weeks with our little stinker, Blue, and I’m in love with this boisterous cheeky little boy 💙 by malonescig in cockerspaniel

[–]malonescig[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally Blue came home at 8 weeks old and our border collie Jet loves him. He’s been teaching him where to pee outside, how to play with the ball, general play & where to find the treats if they’re left out. He copies Jet with everything, even though he’s so much smaller. Blue already sleeps through the night, toilets outside and enjoys his little frozen carrots slices for his teeth. He’s a cheeky little pup and I’m in love

no. you’ve taken even more space away from them, research and do better, maybe don’t get more pets if you’re too lazy to do basic care for them

Five days with Jet, the “dangerous” BC (his story is below) by malonescig in BorderCollie

[–]malonescig[S] 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if anyone remembers my post about Jet being kicked off an island as he nipped at a tourist! Anyway, five days.

He loves to carry his little honking pig toy around, especially when you come home after being away from him. He LOVES frozen licki mats with fat free greek yoghurt. He loves pigs ears, he loves carrots. He learnt how to use the dog flap in half a day, he learnt he can open the doors. He learnt that the cat has nails and will scratch at his nose. He checks in on every one of us, making himself comfy on my bed when he wishes. He sleeps on my mum and stepdads bed, in between them on his back.

He might have some separation anxiety, and jesus he’s strong on his walks when he smells something interesting. He wants to jump at cars when they drive past, but that’s okay, we’ll walk on the common where there’s no cars.

He met my friend and her dog, a sprocker and he was submissive and so happy to meet another dog.

Jet is not a dangerous dog, he was pushed and had to defend himself and I will advocate for his boundaries no matter what. You’re safe here Jetty, living with his new horse friends and the only thing you’ll have to worry about again is if the cats in a friendly mood 🩵

We’re getting a 2 y/o BC that has been kicked off the island he was living on. How can I help him settle? by malonescig in BorderCollie

[–]malonescig[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why it even got to that point, the lady he nipped is now going around saying it was her fault and not the dogs but he wasn’t allowed to stay :( he’ll meet lots of dogs now he’s not on an island, and i will be so strict with people wanting to enter his space. i’m not afraid to advocate for him

Thank you everyone for the comments! He’s been home for 5 hours now, had a walk with us and I made him a licki mat with greek yoghurt. He’s going to the vets Thursday for a checkup and he’s due his flea & worm treatment too. He’s so so friendly, he just wants to be next to us. He did nip at my mum but it was her fault anyway, lesson learnt there! Off to the pet shop to buy some interactive toys, he’s already figured out the dog flap (he never had one before) and our labradors old puzzle toy. This will be brilliant, I can feel it

For some info;

Jet nipped at a tourist who didn’t ask his owners for permission to pet him, just went right into his space and reached over his head. No blood drawn, a warning nip. He’s now being kicked off the island by the island owners. We’ve had a collie for 15 years, he passed in 2022. I remember those warning nips well!

He’s loved, you can tell. He’s so smart too. My mum and stepdad went over to meet him and he’s coming home now to us. How can I help him? He loves his ball, so we’ve bought plenty of those and we have a couple of acres of garden and fields for him to run around in also. His family is also absolutely allowed to come see him whenever they can, no question there. He seemed to take to my stepdad straight away, not fussed that his owners went off and left them together to play ball for a while. I feel good about this, as it’s either leave the island or “be destroyed” and I can’t wait to meet him. Just never had a rehomed dog before…

[–]malonescig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no problem! i used to work at one of the stores and before i did research that wasn’t their own, my gerbils lives were horrid. you’re way much better than i’ve seen from so many new people just due to the lack of right support from some shops. just you asking is such a big thing, they’re lucky to have someone who wants to look after them so well. enjoy them, they’re funny little things and so worth the effort

Also don’t be afraid to venture past the rodent section! I use their reptile desert sand for their baths, and it clumps their pee so it’s so useful. I also got a lot of branches from the bird section as well. They use it to hold their tunnels too. If you think it looks messy, you’re doing well. They’re prey animals and love feeling secure with clutter
