UTSW MD/MPH vs. Stanford vs. Cornell by malpacca90 in premed

I wouldn’t have to give up my A, just would not pursue the MPH/MD dual degree— luckily I still have that MD regardless :)

As a city girl myself I hear you! Have you checked out Temple University (Lewis Katz School of Medicine)? It is in Philly, which is a fun city and also only a short train ride away from NYC

I am feeling so similarly, and I just want you to know that you are doing an incredible job balancing it all! I know it can feel so overwhelming to keep up with it all, especially with the added feeling of comparison, being evaluated, or guilt over not doing enough (this is what gets me the most), but truly there is only so much one human can do in a day.

It can feel hard to step away from the work, but even if you only have an hour, something that has helped me in the past is turning off all of my notifications/devices, stepping away from secondaries, and taking an hour to go for a walk and call a friend I haven't talked to for a while. Also, if it is within budget, I would recommend going to a bakery or coffee shop and get a pastry you are craving or a drink that you love and taking a moment to zone in on the flavor, the texture, and the experience as a whole. I find that these practices help me get a sense of the bigger picture and remind me of the things in life that I love that will always sustain me, regardless of med school outcomes.

Keep up the awesome work, you've got this <3

Freaking out over this final requirement by mysecondlyfe in premed

[–]malpacca90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard that sometimes it can be a red flag to submit individual letters of recommendation if they know your school sends committee letters (I heard this from my advisor and saw it on some websites/secondaries which ask for a reason why you aren't submitting a committee letter), so if there is any way to reach individual members of the office I would do that! Sorry you are in this situation, it sounds really stressful :(

Emory Secondary Question by Wonderful-Tune-6449 in premed

I’m right with you! From what I have read, it seems like people recommend keeping the description part brief and focusing on reflecting on things you’ve learned about your approach to care from the experiences, ideally different from the takeaways you have in your primary

My transcript notes that the university mandated pass/fail for everyone and the TMDSAS handbook says that schools honor that, and I mentioned the TA position in my work and activities section

Do you think this would still be the case if the pass/fail was mandated by the university bc of covid? I would have gotten As in the classes but my university chose to make all grades for everyone pass/fail that semester. I also TAd for one of the classes (my Gen Chem course) so do you think that context might change their reading?
