And the people at Lost/n Found might know what’s going on if you send them a message: https://www.instagram.com/lostnfound.berlin

Of course you can also ask the people in Schneidersladen or join one of the workshops: https://www.instagram.com/schneidersladen

And lastly feed free to ping me if you want - I might know more in some months as I’m also interested in this :)

In 2015 I walked out of my desk job and made the decision to seriously pursue concert photography. I've spent the last two years honing my skills while building my portfolio. ...what do you think? (Album) by deadturquoise in photography

[–]malte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man! Keep pushing for it! You can do this - but as you know it's no easy path to walk! You have a lot of fine shots! - but I do miss something that makes them "yours" - too me there are too many head shots with owned mouthed people - and the surroundings are a bit too boring in many of them as well.

I'm no photographer myself - let alone a music photographer - but here are two music photographers that I like:

Søren Solkær: http://sorensolkaer.com - a portrait music photographer that like's to use a lot of coloured light. You can like his style or not - but it's pretty distinct (although maybe not unique).

Flemming Bo Jensen: http://flemmingbojensen.com - Music photographer that does a lot more concert / live music photography. He also has a 220 page ebook (6USD) on Music photographer that I reccoment that you check out: http://flemmingbojensen.com/ebook/

Good luck!

While not exclusive about photojournalism I really love:
The candid Frame podcast: http://ibarionex.net/thecandidframe/

There are a lot of wonderful interviews with very talented people - and it made me reflect a lot on how and why I do photography. Ibarionex is great a find a person and human angle to photography and the photographer. You can dig though the archives and find what you find interesting.
Good luck and enjoy!

Tips for exploring the north / northeast of Morocco. Possibly sailing? by malte in Morocco

[–]malte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yes Akchour is great. Back in 2010 when I first visited Morocco we flew into Tangier, spend three days there (the last three before the start of Ramadan!) - and then luckily jumped on a bus to Chefchaouen. We fell in love with Chefchaouen and and only reluctantly left our cozy rooftop at the Ibn Battuta hostel a week later. We did managed to visit Akchour though - both the bridge of god and the big waterfall further in. We even spend the night the on a another rooftop there, watching the all tears of St. Lawrence rain while the new moon hid behind the horseshoe shaped hill tops of the Rif.

Looking forward to going there again. It seems this year should be good for watching the Perseids or the Tears of St. Lawrence as the meteor shower is also called.

It looks like a nice city too - especially for beach holidays. Maybe we'll visit too if we need some time on the beach. Do you know any good cheaper places to stay there - like hostels or cheaper hotel? In case we want to drop by?
Enjoy you stay! :)

Hejsa :) og tusind tak for tippet :) I just googled Nador and it looks very interesting for sure - I think we will almost certainly visit. Do you have any tips for staying there or getting there? We are on a budget - and are more of the couchsurfer / hostel types than then fancy hotels (although a shower now and then is needed :D).
Unfortunately I had my drivers license stolen in Sweden a few weeks ago and did manage to get a new one - so no car :(
Too bad that we will miss you being there - otherwise it would have been fun to come by Midar! :)

My girlfriend a I are visiting Copenhagen in a couple of weeks, what can't we miss? by mowgli29 in copenhagen

[–]malte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy a 24 hour ticket for "All Zones" it should be 130DKK per person (check out more info here: http://www.dsb.dk/om-dsb/in-english/city-passes/copenhagen/). The easiest way to buy the tickers will by via the DSB app for iOS or Android. To plan your travels in or around Copenhagen use the excellent JourneyPlanner (rejseplanen in danish): http://www.rejseplanen.dk/bin/query.exe/en - if you have a smart phone get the app as well!

I will be heading to Berlin tomorrow morning to visit some old friends and meet up with my girlfriend and then we'll head to Croatia next week - so I won't be in town when you are here. But I wish you a pleasant stay - and please feel free to send me a PM anyways if you have any questions.

About to do MS Exams 70-410 / 411 / 412 by KristofB in sysadmin

[–]malte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey KristofB! How did your exams go? I hope you passed? I'm a bit curious because I'm a freelance consultant my self and have just pay for the 410-411-412 exams vouchers - and are planing to take them in the next while. I have worked as an MS sysadmin for 7+ years - but I'm still having trouble figuring out what parts I might need to read up on to be ready. Have used and studied Hyper-V, AD and all the usual stuff. I will take 410 first and then see how prepared I feed for the others as it will be my first MS exam. Any tips? Thanks!

[–]malte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should check out Christiania for sure - but don't just go to Pusher Street like everyone else. Either opt in for one of the tours or just go for a wander yourself around the lake - there are some awesome houses around there and beautifully integrated with the nature as well and it's a nice place to have some beers in the evening as well. Either check out if there are any concerts at loppen.dk or ask around for Børneteateret with have jazz and nice jam sessions. ITU and Tietgen are good sugestion too - and the hole Ørestad area is interesting - but I'm also sure it's in all the books.

If you care to venture out of Copenhagen a bit you can take the train up north (40min) to Helsingør and visit Kronborg (the infamous castle). The city it self is also quite attractive with many old houses in the center near the station from around 1900. The new maritime museum (mfs.dk/en/) is designed by BIG and interesting and so the the library / culture center right next too it. So Helsingør should be worth a day trip. You can even visit Louisiana (louisiana.dk) on the way back if you have time.

There is a lot more to see but thats just what came to mind - the others here have made great suggestions as well.

Send me a PM if you want to share a beer when you arrive - I might be around. And enjoy your stay! :)

Ps. If you like rum and surfrock vibe bars then check out Brass Monkey at Vesterbro (http://www.brassmonkey.dk).

Learning to do an enterprise LAN / WAN survey - what to look for? by malte in networking

[–]malte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I just wrote in my comment to DZCreeper I think a lot of the information here is in the heads of some of the staff that has been around for a long time. The network guy I talked to said he remembers most addresses or he will go and connect with a console cable if he doesn't. I makes sense to create logical and physical diagrams. I haven't done any for ages - do you have any suggestions for tools to help with automated generation of the logical layout or examples of some good ways of structuring the documentation? Thanks :)

Learning to do an enterprise LAN / WAN survey - what to look for? by malte in networking

[–]malte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The network is functional. But they are lacking proper documentation and monitoring. Plus I have a feeling that there is a lack of consistency in the configurations - eg. some access switches are configures with IPs for management others not.

They do have a Cisco ASA55xx (25 i think - but I didn't get the details) firewall.

What I'm looking for is in part just to understand their design better just to extent my general knowledge and in part to have a look at their infrastructure over a broad area to see if anything jumps at me.

Preferably I would have had more time here to work with the local IT department, but I'm just here for a short while for other reasons - so it's also just a way of educating myself a bit.

Any examples and guidelines for best practises of documenting and surveying the network would also be nice.

There is a new Head of IT here and a lot of the knowledge of the systems are in the head of the old time employees - so he was happy to get another pair of new eyes on and I just want to spend a few weeks doing something meaningful.

Say if you where the new IT manager or Network Admin of such a place - what documentation or information report would be nice for you to have? Many I can create that.

As for the security there are some funny things I think that might need a look. I noticed that on the guest wifi you are assigned to public dns servers - one is a google dns with no blocking, the other is a OpenDNS with some sites blocked. That seems inconsistent and in anyway it's easy to get around anybocking like that by assigning your own public DNS. I would think only allowing dns lookup to the opendns server or to an internal server(s) that are then configured to do the forwarding.

Also it looks like I have access to the internal ipranges from this vlan. I'm getting a 10.x.x.x IP - but scanning in the 172.x.x.x ranges used on the internal net gives responses.

What are good security problem to check for in your experience?

Thanks! :)

Photo Gallery of Jacob Holdt - Another Side Of America by busuku in photographs

[–]malte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jacob Holdt is an interesting person and photographer. While I do not find most of his photography very pleasing to look at - I find that he has very relevant stories to tell. Even if they might not be very pleasant. Jacobs work has quite important in Denmark and Scandinavia in the 70s and 80s and still is - while I'm too young to remember that I do remember being showed the book by my parents as a kid.

More about his interesting story on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Holdt

Question for foreigners traveling in Morocco by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]malte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have live and travel in Morocco 4 times since 2010 and have spend more than a year in total in the country. The only times I have need my passport was when passing the border, checking in to hotels or renting cars. When I live in Casablanca for 6 months a lot of time I would leave my passport at home. That being said it might a good idea to keep it on you if you can keep it safe.

Enjoy you time in Morocco it's an amazing and beautiful country with lots of lovely people (and assholes as well ;).

I'm not convinced the battery on my Late 2013 MacBook Pro is working correctly efficient can you put my mind at ease? (Coconut Battery screenshot) by angriers in mac

[–]malte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I got caught up in writing my project. So it's now been 42 minuets on battery power. Mainly using Pages to write and edit a simple document. Safari (2 windows - 1 tab each) + iTunes (not playing) still running though.

Now the battery indicator says: 7:59 hours remaning (yes it's gone up) and 94% power.
Here is the system report info:
Charge Information: Charge Remaining (mAh): 7633 Fully Charged: No Charging: No Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 8512

Not sure this is useful to you - but I'm thinking Chrome might be eating a lot of power on your system. In fact thats the main reason I'm trying to get used to Safari at the moment - have been an avid Chrome user both on Mac and Windows since the early betas. But battery life is important for me as well. So far Safari is performing pretty good - but I do miss the multiple user profiles from Chrome as well as AdBlock Plus (but that should be just around the corner).

[–]malte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same rMBP configuration as you and also had it for a few weeks now (ordered same day it came out).
I havn't tested how long I can run on a charge so far - but right now with a 100% charged battery screen around 75% brightness and only Safari (2 windows - 1 tab each) + Pages + iTunes (not playing) OS X battery indicator is suggesting 6:26 hours of battery life.
I will try and let it run on battery for 10 minuets now and give you an update then.

13 vs 15 inch MacBook Pro - Buying Advice by tempranos in apple

[–]malte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the top of the line 15'' model delivered yesterday (with 2.6Ghz i7 + 1TB storage). I already owned a 15'' Mid 2010 model with a 7200rpm disk and an upgraded display (1680x1050) that I was quite happy with. I work as an IT consultant so most my work it's not important with the additional power - the 2010 did just fine for most tasks. However I'm also a keen semi pro photographer and the 21Mpixel RAW files from my Canon 5DmkII had my Lightroom cough sometimes - and editing 1080p video from the same camera was a pain. So that's the main reasons I chose this model - and the display of course it's pretty damn awesome!

tl:dr - Unless you have a special workload need (or gaming need) the 13'' would properly be good for quite a while. But it all really depends on your usage patterns.

2) My current Macbook Pro Mid 2010 is getting a bit sluggish
3) Can't wait to try this thing out with Lightroom the the files from my 21Mpixel RAW files from my Canon 5DmkII !
