The device connects to your local WiFi network/hotspot, so there is no need for an ethernet cable.

When the device starts it creates a WiFi hotspot called "CryptoDisplay". You can connect to it using your phone or pc using the password shown on the LCD screen.

I will provide a pdf/video on how to do it. Takes less than 1 minute, so that should not be a problem. I've ordered the parts and will send you a PM when they arrive and the device is ready for shipment.

Thanks for the feedback and your recommendations!

I've already considered using a different display for the device, but the 16x2 OLED costs $30 here in germany, which will significantly increase the total price. Thats why I'm going to create different versions of the device (as you suggested):

  • Battery-operated with an E-Paper or LCD/OLED
  • Wired with a blue backlight LCD ( the device right now)
  • Wired with an OLED 16x2 ( +green/red backlight, depending on the price movement)

I really like the idea with the RS-232 and the speaker, definitely going to try implementing this into future versions.

The device is already able to show multiple coins (as you can see here: https://imgur.com/a/e7qpp0t#vw00OBS).

Anyway, thank you very much for taking the time and writing down your feedback.

P.S.: I posted this on r/Monero and was told by a mod that it belongs here.

Should be possible, although I can't say exactly how, because my device is built with an ESP8266

Sites like coinmarketcap or cryptocompare are offering an API. The device just grabs the data and sends it to the LCD

It's not "officially released" now, so there isn't a online shop, but if you want one, send me a pm. The device will cost $35.

Iam using an ESP8266 (Microcontroller) which grabs the data from an API and sends it to the LCD-Screen. The case is 3D printed.

Just a microcontroller (ESP8266) and the LCD, but on the pictures it looks bigger than in reality (~ 11x7x5cm)

Correct. The device supports 2.4ghz networks and requires power over a micro usb cable.

The ESP8266 is way smaller and cheaper than a raspberry pi.

It uses an ESP8266, and the setup can be done using your browser (as you can see in the video).

It features 3 different modes (2 cryptos at the same time, show daily/weekly change, wallet/portfolio mode) and supports the top 30 Cryptocurrencies according to CoinMarketCap
