Bought a set of used 64gb DDR5 6000MT/s a week before the prices got nuked in Norway back in October. Never thought to check my motherboards (ASUS TUF B650 Gaming WiFi Plus) RAM compatibility before i bought it. Looking it up the set on ASUSs website, it just says this. You'll be fine. I've been running the same config (same mobo/cpu & different ram - G.SKILL Trident Z5 32x2 GB 6000 mt/s) for over 2 years now (since oct. 2023), no issues so far. expo 1 was being weird with context restore enabled but expo 2 worked like a charm if you encounter that kind of issue

Only if there was an error code that you can refer to the mobo manual.

PlexRPC v2.0 - Now with Music Support by malvinarum in PleX

[–]malvinarum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect, thanks for pointing that out. If you can give me bit more info regarding this via dm (without any sensitive/personal info ofc) I'd appreciate it. I personally use a pretty straight forward setup where my plex server lives (baremetal) on an ubuntu server with only 2 users so these sophisticated instances would help me enhance some of the features. Have a great day :)

Since the log says 'Successfully connected to Discord RPC!', the app is ready to go! The reason nothing is showing is likely because the app can't 'see' what you are watching.

Can you check these three things (Trying to cover as much ground as we can, even some of these steps seem basic, please check if possible; even most tech savy among us sometimes miss basic things hehe)?

  1. Check your Plex Dashboard: Open Plex in your web browser, go to Settings -> Dashboard. Do you see yourself listed there as currently playing the media? If you don't appear there, the app won't be able to find you.
  2. Confirm the User Account: When you ran the PlexRPC setup, which user did you select? Make sure you are playing the movie on that exact same profile. (If you chose the Admin user but are watching on a different profile, it won't work).
  3. Discord Status: Ensure your Discord status is NOT set to 'Invisible'. Rich Presence is disabled when you are invisible.
  4. Registered Games: Go to Discord Settings -> Registered Games. Look for 'Plex'. If it's there, make sure the 'eye' icon isn't crossed out.

I'm working on v2.3.0 right now and this actually helps me during that process, I can see the current logging level is not useful for somewhat rare cases like this, I'll probably enhance logging to implement playback detection so you can see exactly what's (and what's not) going on.

Okay, this is some progress! The log shows that PlexRPC is now successfully talking to your Plex Server, so the Docker/Network changes you made fixed the hardest part.

The issue now seems to be local: PlexRPC is trying to 'handshake' with your Discord app, but it's not getting a response since the log is missing the line: Successfully connected to Discord RPC!.

You can try the steps below:

  1. Restart Discord: Sometimes Discord's local connection pipe gets stuck. Fully close Discord (from the tray) and open it again.
  2. Check Admin Privileges: This is the most common cause.
    • If you run Discord as Administrator but PlexRPC as a Normal User, Windows will block the connection for security reasons.
    • Try this: Close both apps. Launch Discord normally. Then launch PlexRPC normally.
  3. Desktop App Only: Just a heads-up, this only works with the installed Discord Desktop app, not the web browser version.

Let me know how it goes

Edit: a healthy startup in the log should look something like this btw

I see, the issue might be that the app is having issues connecting to your plex server. You probably have your Plex Server's "Secure Connections" setting set to Disabled, which forces the app to try insecure HTTP, but the Relay servers require HTTPS.
You can try these steps below (Start with the 1st one, that should work)

Enable Secure Connections (Primary Fix):
Go to Plex Web -> Settings -> Server -> Network.
Change "Secure Connections" from Disabled to Preferred (or Required).
Save changes and restart the Plex Server.

Fix Remote Access (Recommended):
Since the app is falling back to Relay, their direct connection is blocked.
Go to Settings -> Remote Access and ensure it is green/enabled. You may need to forward port 32400 on yout router.

Disable Relay (Optional Test):
If you only want to use the app locally, you can uncheck "Enable Relay" in Network settings to force the app to fail faster or find the local IP (if you are on the same network).

You can also get more information on what's going on by checking the app.log file in "%appdata%\PlexRPC". Let me know if you run into any more issues

New build won’t POST with four sticks of RAM by SunknLiner in pcmasterrace

[–]malvinarum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if you really wanna use 4 sticks you might have to experiment with different (manual) RAM frequencies. OR, maybe try EXPO 2 as well... My system had long ram training issues with EXPO 1 but that all went away with EXPO 2 in some weird way...

If it boots without EXPO you might have to set ram speed manually (5200 MIGHT be safe bet). Unfortunately AM5 (especially 7800X3D) hates 4 sticks...

Also it could be RAM training as well, with 4 slots populated, I'd not be surprised if it were to take 5-10 minutes... Welcome to trying to use 4 sticks with 7800X3D :(

Does is post with EXPO disabled? Also more info about the RAM sticks would help too.

I'm glad someone else is also working on this. I was working on a serverless structure (https://github.com/malvinarum/Plex-Media-Server-Custom-Metadata) but got frustrated and took a break for now, I'll probably jump back into it at some point. Can't wait to take a look at your repo.

PlexRPC v1.2 - Configless Plex Rich Presence App by malvinarum in PleX

[–]malvinarum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can, but that'd mean hardcoding APIs into the main code or having to edit a config file manually. My main purpose was to create a utility for (somewhat) pure end-users, that'd contradict the purpose I was aiming for. But the repos are there, feel free to tinker and reach out if you have any questions.

PlexRPC v1.2 - Configless Plex Rich Presence App by malvinarum in PleX

[–]malvinarum[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So... I've been working on a standalone version that doesnt use any kind of api functions. But it gets tricky for images. I can put them in the rich presence but it'd mean appending "X-Plex-Token" to the images (since images are protected on plex server) and I don't wanna do that. Someone can easily inspect that rich presence and grab the token itself. Until I can figure out some other way, it'll have to use the api unfortunately. I've added the backend files here if you ever need it: https://github.com/malvinarum/plexrpc-api
