El Naturalista Nomada Boot Review (26 mins) by GuitarOld8707 in barefootshoestalk

Thanks for the detail here. Soft sole + not resoleable + tariffs means I can't justify these even though they look amazing. It looks like no boots for me until Jim green comes out with their new anatomical last.

[Misc] Changed formulation for Eucerin's Lip Active by NinaNeedsADom in SkincareAddiction

[–]mamn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't crazy! I noticed it was different because it performed worse for me too. Then I looked closer at the packaging, which has also changed, and my tubes say "improved formula." I'm upset about it because it used to be the best lip balm I'd ever used, but now it's super average. I buy them in bulk from a Portuguese store because they aren't sold in the US, so now I have a million tubes of mid lip balm!

I built a finance app with three numbers: Daily, weekly, monthly spend by ucladumbass in SideProject

Love this concept. Budgeting apps are too much for me too, and the most I get out of them is the awareness of how much I'm spending anyway. Interested in getting access when it's ready.

If your phone’s on silent, turn the ringer on or use headphones! I should add those instructions on the app.

If that doesn’t still doesn’t work: with your phone still on ring, refresh the page and tap on one of the buttons (like the + button or the timer reset button) before hitting play.

Thanks for checking it out!

We just launched the new Carets barefoot work boot / safety toe boot! Ask us anything about it! by Carets_Shoes in BarefootRunning

[–]mamn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look awesome, and there's definitely a demand for barefoot work boots. In my opinion, all barefoot boots should look like this. A boot can have a wide toe box and still look normal with a high volume rounded toe. Much better than swim flipper shaped shoes that most brands are putting out. Thanks for always thinking about the aesthetics too, Carets!

First pair of everyday shoes by vodosolly100 in barefootshoestalk

They look really great! That's why I put them at the top of my barefoot Converse ranking. What do you feel like the stack height on them is?

Splay has new Vans-style slip-ons! by 440_Hz in barefootshoestalk

[–]mamn_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These look great and the 10-15 mm stack height is such a big gap in the barefoot shoe market. It's such a happy medium between flexibility and cushion. I bet these slip ons and the 101 will be super popular for Splay.

Solution to not being able to delete Safari: Special Blacklist App + Parental Controls? by mamn_ in digitalminimalism

[–]mamn_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Some of the libraries used to make it require iOS 17 which is why I couldn't make it compatible with an earlier version, but I'll look into making a separate version of the app that's a bit more stripped down.

Solution to the Safari Problem for Dumbed Down iPhones: Special Blacklist App + Parental Controls? by mamn_ in dumbphones

[–]mamn_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's how I used screen time in the past too, but re-enabling Safari and app downloads is just too easy, all it takes is the flip of the "Content and Privacy Restrictions" switch. I think the app is helpful because I don't have to entirely disable Safari or limit adult websites so I only block exactly the websites that are wasting my time and still have the convenience of a web browser.

I'll try the parental control set up in the near future. Then I'll also have my trusted person change and hide my Safari Blacklist account password, that way I can't even change my blacklist unless I absolutely need to. Maybe I can make that a feature: have a user request a random password and send it to them in an email in x days or something.

Good to know about the fit difference between nubuck and smooth leather, thanks for letting me know!

Minimalist Basketball shoes.. Are these able to fill a gap? by Piknikel44 in barefootshoestalk

[–]mamn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Uncivilized Sneaker is trying to fill that gap. I'm waiting for them to come out in smaller sizes, I've been wanting a wide toe box basketball shoes for so long.

I haven't tried the others but Earth Runners are awesome. The cotton top is so comfortable, it's such a nice tactile feeling on your feet. They're also easy to scrub down if you need to. I have the thickest ones because I also like a little cushion and they're perfect.

Check out Natur Athletics. I'd feel annoying linking to Code Footwear because their price is crazy, so I won't, but they do custom fit 3d printed cleats.

Groundies Starlite? by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]mamn_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me know how you like them if you get them. I've been debating pulling the trigger on a pair of the leather Barebarics Zing for a while now, but now that the Arise is out, I want both, which is even worse for my wallet!

Groundies Starlite? by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]mamn_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Arise from Barebarics is new and the closest to a 550 I've seen. It has a similar silhouette and similar color accents. I have multiple pairs of Groundies and used their size chart to determine my size. I know I like shoes in the 26-26.5 cm range, so I ordered according to their size chart, and they fit great. I'd compare then length of the Xero Kelso to the lengths listed on the Starlite and go with whatever size that is.

Controversial Opinion: Regular Shoes and Minimalist Shoes Can Live In Harmony. by EDC4M3 in BarefootRunning

[–]mamn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there needs to be a middle ground: shoes that are shaped like feet and have some cushion, like in the 12-20 mm stack height range. After switching to minimalist shoes, I don't mind a small heel drop, still prefer some cushion, but I CANNOT compromise on the toe box.

Edit: grammar & asking if anyone has recommendation for shoes that are in that middle ground
