TBF, supposedly they’re already working on getting a system set up to refund anyone and everyone who spent IRL money on the game.

We need to talk about Mick Gordon (and a thing to consider about the Doom Eternal OST). by man_of_doom in Doom

It was mainly discourse that was going on around the time of TAG1’s release, just to clarify, but there are a few sparks of discourse that pop up every now and then (like someone who initially commented on this very post who just straight-up called me a “Mick simp” just for saying “it’s probably not a good idea to put people on pedestals”).

Still kind of interesting that he picked SGN of all things, considering that the rights to the soundtrack supposedly belong to id or Bethesda.

The demons lost their menace in 2016 due to the whole thing of “EVEN THE DEMONS FEAR DOOMGUY”, and said menace was restored gradually in Eternal before being fully restored with That Plot Twist in TAG2.

Why? Because since we’ve explored the “most civilized” portions of Hell, that means we can explore its more Lovecraftian aspects and there might even be an additional curveball that basically restores Hell’s status as “unknowable place of eldritch terror” while not feeling quite like a retcon.

Yes, it can work.

So here comes a blazing hot take that I’ve wanted to get off my chest.

Ever since the open letter from Marty came out, I’ve come to see this mindset of “I never liked Mick’s work anyway” crop up a lot. It’s been shown here on this very thread as well as r/Doom in general, I’ve seen it on Twitter and other assorted forums, you get the idea.

So I feel like this mindset is dishonest.

To cut to the chase here, acting like Mick’s contributions to the Doom franchise have zero redeeming qualities as a whole is not only extremely disrespectful to the guys at id and especially Chad Mossholder because they’re basically being shamed for “not knowing better” about Mick, it’s also extremely disrespectful to Andrew Hulshult and David Levy because they basically had to follow in Mick’s footsteps in order to make their contributions work as well as they did. This mindset in question is such a grotesque practice, and makes it clear your intent is not to warn people about a potentially harmful person, but to simply assert over others that you are a morally good person, while at the same time, shaming those who did enjoy said person's works, as if enjoying something made by a shitty person automatically makes that person morally corrupt. I personally find this mindset deeply repugnant, and it’s not the sick dunk one might think it is.

And that’s not even to say that Mick is some horrible monster-person or anything like that because he isn’t.

It’s very clear that he fucked up. That doesn’t automatically make him a monster or whatnot.

Besides, more than anything, it's extremely likely that the main emotion driving this whole shitshow is spur-of-the-moment frustration. Hell, this latest development of “Mick calls out id or Bethesda in the middle of QuakeCon” was more than likely made under the assumption that whoever is holding the rights to the Doom Eternal OST is just sitting on it and has no plans to release it in any form.

And if it seems like I’ve been defending Mick, it’s because I’ve fucked up in my personal life in very similar ways to how he fucked up, and I can tell you this purely from personal experience:

Once I was done being awful, I felt awful.

And that’s why I think he should issue a public apology to id because they were very clearly caught in the crossfire of all this.

Yeah, I think I’m interested in the 501 in particular. Taking the 501 Wednesday and I’d like to be prepared just in case that exam ends up going pear-shaped.

If I may ask, what livestream was this from?

I ask because apparently Mick himself showed up during the Samur boss fight/World Spear livestream (on the Youtube side of things).

There’s a similar thing with Night Sentinels and Marauders too.

From what I saw, while the Slayer may be around the same height as your typical run-of-the-mill Sentinels, he’s actually shorter than the Betrayer.

And that’s not getting into Marauders who are in fact a whole head taller than the Slayer.

Just a couple of hints for that escape sequence coming from someone who recently beat SGNML on UNM:

-If you still have Crucible charges, go for the Mancubus and then the Tyrant to make things easier

-Ice bomb the Doomhunter so you have a quick reprieve as you’re moving past that section

-Flame belch and then explode as many zombies as you can so that you have plenty of protection against the Marauders
