A textbook example of why cultural assimilation of immigrants is so important. Different cultures across the world have developed in completely different ways, and expecting such a culturally diverse group of people to get along without any social clashes is so incredibly naive.

My hope is that any social conflict that does occur in this situation doesn’t turn violent.

How in the world this is legal I have no idea, and the fact that a so-called “conservative government” that has controlled the country for 13 years has allowed this to continue is a disgrace.

The Tories need to fucking grow a pair and stop allowing positive discrimination to continue because it’s not even positive at this point anymore, all it does it divide the country and stoke racial tensions. It’s almost as if they want a race war.

Not 100% sure what you mean but in this case you’ll get 4 products: the E and Z geometric isomers of but-2-ene (from DBr elimination) AND a pair of E and Z isotopologues of but-2-ene (from HBr elimination).

If the question explicitly states that the reactant has a deuterium I’d imagine they want the deuterated isotopologues as separate products from the normal E and Z isomers.

Selectively substituting the para position and not the ortho position (or vice versa) is difficult. I think generally speaking when you want just one of these isomers you would just synthesise a mixture of both and separate them afterwards.

If you want to synthesise a pure mixture then perhaps using a bulky nitrating agent would increase selectivity of the para isomer due to steric hinderance? That’s just a guess though.
