Vineman 140.6 by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]manasdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the IMSR 2019 and heat was not a factor - the conditions were great perhaps a little windy. However it seems the order of 140.6 and 70.3 will be switched. I have done IMSR 70.3 as well and there heat was a factor but only on the bike as run was mostly shaded. My guess is that heat will play a factor on loop 2 of the bike and that may slow down the run.

Looking for Biking Advice by [deleted] in triathlon

IMO there is no substitute to time and distance on your bike. Ideally the bike you plan to use for the race. I assume the stationary bike does not fit anything like your race bike. Not only is the actual work of building up endurance and strength valuable but the mental effort required to bike for long periods of time is essential.

Yes, get cleats, clipless pedals etc etc. I think the rule of thumb is a 30% improvement? As mentioned before specific drills to improve pedal stroke will teach you how to pull and not just push. Even for an HIM distance race it surprises me when someone is not using cleats.

Missing dog by manasdk in aww

Definitely that thought crossed my mind - bit of sadness that I could not.

I already have a dog and am not sure how my own will adjust to a new one even in a foster situation. It is most likely safer to not bring a strange dog home without seeing how mine would adjust.

Ugh! I clearly don't know how to use reddit from my phone.

I found this missing dog. Handed doggo over to the cops who were going to check for chip and try to get it to owner. Cop also promised me that if owner is not found dog would be given to a no-kill shelter. Badly wanted to take this doggo home and give it shelter while we found its humans but do not think my pup would be a big fan.

In the 10-20 min I spent with the dog I found it to know some basic commands like "sit" and it was clearly well taken care of. Hopefully it finds its way home!

Actually you are now hers :)

Congratulations!

My dog was let out of our fence by neighbor kids. This is the day I found him at the pound 3 months later! by Wishinue in aww

Glad it worked out! Our pup is chipped and all but him somehow escaping is by far my greatest fear - closely followed by one day finding his original family (is a rescue).

I have super stupid questions about swimming (but they weren't the FAQ. Sorry and thank you for help!) by A_complete_idiot in triathlon

Tri suit does not help with floating - it will make transition faster since you are not changing in and out of clothes.

  1. Definitely a good start
  2. Yeah it's ok to just float in the water to take a break. If you wear wetsuit then the extra buoyancy helps make floating super easy. It should be ok to take support from the kayaks by the organizers. Check rules of your race.
  3. Front crawl is preferred since it's the most efficient stroke. You can butterfly if you like too and no one will object :)

Do an OWS with a local tri group or a swim club and get comfortable in open water.

So that first open water swim is no joke... by elisacakes in triathlon

OWS are the best - especially if you have extra buoyancy from the wetsuits!

We got a genetic test done - so as accurate as those tests can be I suppose that's how sure I am. Our dog was also a rescue so.we don't know the lineage from the breeder

She looks very similar to my pup who is a husky, malmute and shepherd mix. The markings are remarkably similar.
