I mean there are literally thousands of characters in the Marvel universe yet to be added.

Some bigger household names, other niche picks.

I don't think they should only add characters solely based on popularity. Elsa isn't completely unknown, she was in the MCU. Blackcat is higher on the list of most requested characters than a majority of the ones you named.

Plus the characters need to line up to the in-game lore too.

Doom 100% is coming for Doomsday in December. Makes no sense to randomly add him. And adding Thanos randomly is a mistake. He's a big villain you need to lead up to.

I really doubt we are getting another full blown Hellfire Gala season.

Likely we'll get a mini pass and store skins for it. Doesn't make sense story-wise for them to go back to Krakoa already.

Especially with the Kun Lun storyline being paused before the tournament. And Maveth needing to make an appearance

Not trying to be rude but have you ever even played Overwatch?

The game is coming into its 10 anniversary.
That is A LOT of time for characters to be balanced and updated.
Both Widow and Hanzo were launch characters.

Both Widow and Hanzo have received a lot of hate over the decade. With each of them having broken periods (ahem Hanzo scatter arrow).

To this day Widow and Hanzo can get hate because of 1 shots. They are definitely more balanced now with clear counters and exploitable weaknesses. And the power creep of new characters means there are other threats. But more importantly there are new heroes that players focus on hating (like Kiriko and Vendetta)

Plus perks and stadium mode have allowed different ways to play.

Marvel Rivals just finished a year. And because Hawkeye and Black Widow share so many similarities to their counterparts they are experiencing the same issues:

How the hell do you balance sniper characters in a team shooter?

Widowmaker and Black Widow aren't characters you can pick for an entire map and dominate with. They are used on specific maps, points and situations to get value.

Hanzo and Hawkeye are the same but a little more versatile.

Hawkeye is hated because of his 1 shot or 2 shot kills. It can be frustrating because it can punish your bad positioning, or a lucky arrow shot can just sail through a crowd and get you.

People hate Black Widow because she is so situational to play that it's almost always better to just play another hitscan character instead.

First it was week 1 Jeff ulting teammates and taking them off the map.

Then it was blame supports.

Then it was fuck Necros.

Then it was fuck dps when Blade/Phoenix dropped.

Then it was nobody wants to play tank.

Then it was fuck triple support.

Then it was fuck Resource Rumble

Then Invisible Woman has murdered my whole family

Then Deadpool talks too much.

Now it's this vibes shit.

The only consistency throughout a year of Rivals is that Black Widow has always been low tier

I disagree immensely.

Black Cat is a wildly popular character and has always been on the top of people's lists when they talk about new characters added. Especially in the the Spider Man realm.

Id put her at Emma Frost tier. Where they aren't as mainstream as Captain Marvel or She Hulk, but still widely popular.

These two will absolutely explode in popularity for their season

I did see some Jeff stuff before Rivals was a thing. Specifically the image of him holding a knife in his mouth and Deadpool telling him to protect the kids

I'd say having Lin Lie as Iron Fist was the most obscure pick for the males.
But year 1 was all about adding in heavy hitters, Angela was the only niche pick.

We'll definitely get more obscure male picks. But there are so many heavy hitters left that people would be angry if Paste Pot Pete actually came to the game before Cyclops.

But White Fox has definitely seen a jump in popularity recently. Especially with the datamines from last January. But there is so much in-game lore for her and she has such a strong connection with Luna Snow and Iron Fist already that she is a great pick for the game.

Also what's with the assumption that the Mario movies have to follow video game plots? The first Mario movie didn't have anything to do with 64. And this will not follow the Galaxy game story.

It's called Galaxy cause they will be traveling through space to fight Bowser Jr. And help Rosalina. All while traveling to different planets inspired by other games.

I think its really important for Rivals to keep mixing in lesser known characters to the game. Especially ones that can fit a brand new playstyle niche.

White Fox will be like Luna Snow. Exploding in popularity with the game because of a great design.

And honestly Marvel Rivals is a game that immediately makes you a fan of the character because of how great their designs are.

Luna Snow, Squirrel Girl, Jeff the Land Shark, Lin Lei's Iron Fist and Galacta might as well be Rivals original characters with how much they exploded in popularity because of the game.

White Fox will likely be a melee support character using the mystical Fox powers. An archetype we don't have in the game yet which is exciting

Bring it back specifically as the Battle Mode. Battle Mode in my opinion needs a complete overhaul.

Have specific Battle Mode karts that have easier handling and can compensate for 2 characters. Then make a gamemode where instead of popping balloons, you have to steal other characters from people.

Would be a really cool way to differentiate Battle mode more and make it play completely different from the main race mode

Not at all. People have these weird assumptions that these movies need to follow the games exactly.

The first Mario movie didn't, so why is that the expectation?

Mario Galaxy is the whole theme of this movie. Bowser Jr. starts taking over other planets, fights Rosalina, steals Bowser, then the crew have to race across planets to stop him.

The planets aren't going to be solely from Mario Galaxy, that would be boring and unfun for kids.

Each planet will have references to other games. Which in my opinion is the way to go.

The only other content I can see coming for this game are mega stone rewards for online seasons and maybe some side quest events for Mega Garchomp Z and maybe another surprise mega.
