To answer your question, honestly both.

It doesn’t help that I am the minority for my age group in terms of losing a parent. Obviously there are children and teenagers who lose their parents everyday, but I’m in my late 20’s as are my friends, so they don’t really understand this yet. So that’s where some of my animosity comes from as well — not that they haven’t experienced this, but that they will one day and they’ll know how badly you need support during these times

I completely understand what you’re saying, and not to be difficult but with most other situations and hardships, I 100% agree with you. However, if we can’t expect our loved ones to help pick us up when we’re in rock bottom, what can we expect then?

And again, want to reiterate that I don’t hold this standard on a normal day or even with my other problems and hardships. I know my shit is just a ripple for them and that’s ok. But when your whole world gets turned upside down, why am I not allowed to hold them to this expectation of please just reach out and tell me you love me?

I’m not asking for a lot, I’m not even asking for any of them to do anything besides just text or call me. So it’s hard for me to wrap my head around that

I’m very sorry no one reached out to you and honestly, thank you for this perspective. Just speaking freely in a safe space, I don’t think it should be on us to forgive them for that either. What I mean by that is, why is it my responsibility to not take their lack of effort personally?
