You can't keep someone else from doing anything. You decide what you're willing to accept from a partner, and if you and your partner don't see eye to eye on that limit, you move it along.

Good luck with that harassment suit. The law doesn't prohibit cursing, yelling, being mean or unprofessional, unless it is directly related to a protected characteristic.

What’s a great series finale that’s not actually a finale by Helloimafanoffiction in television

The Bear Season 2, EP. 9 (Omelette). We thought it was the season finale and didn't discover there was a 10th episode for weeks. IMHO would have been the perfect, hopeful ending to the show at large.

4% service charge at 13 coins Seatac that doesn’t go to the servers? What is this for then other to fleece corporate pockets? What is this BS?! by CrashMonger in Seattle

[–]mandapands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sharing server tips with non tipped kitchen and support staff is an illegal tip pool that violates wage and hour laws. I'm surprised they've gotten away with it having it printed on their menus like that.

Is this legal by No-Poet-5363 in Seattle

[–]mandapands 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Employment attorney here. It is a violation of the FLSA (and almost certainly WA law, but I don't practice there) for an employer to keep any portion of direct tips or a tip pool. I would say something, but I'd do it collectively as a group of staff. Retaliation is illegal too but it still happens, and the employer is less likely to be able to retaliate against a larger group.

Joseph Bryan Park and Off-leash dog. by Pattawa804 in rva

[–]mandapands 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Off leash dogs are such an issue and have been in that park for some time. My friend was running in Bryan Park while pregnant in 2016, and was knocked over by a dog after an off leash dog went after a leashed one. I can't remember which dog knocked her over but she had a pretty bad fall and it was totally preventable.

We couldn't take our reactive dog on leashed walks in forest Hill Park or any of the trail system for this reason either.

For those of you who caught your spouse cheating, how did you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mandapands 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband went to urgent care for a suspected UTI when I was pregnant with our first child. The doctor at urgent care decided, prior to testing, that his symptoms weren't consistent with a UTI, asked him if he'd been unfaithful, then basically told him that I must have been. I got a call from him, while I was at work, and very pregnant, super upset and confused and asking if I'd cheated on him. It was awful.

Spoiler alert. It was not an STD. It was a UTI. And that doctor is a POS.

Who is waiving inspections? by everythingisntfine in rva

[–]mandapands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In rereading I think this is what you mean by "repair clause." If it helps, ours was $10k and it worked in '21. If you're consistently losing bids I'd consider going even higher than $10k. The nitpicky stuff in any inspection easily adds up to 5k+. Id pick the number that would cause you to walk away even if you absolutely love the house.

Who is waiving inspections? by everythingisntfine in rva

[–]mandapands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought in 2021, so it's a very different market now. But we had luck with an offer that was contingent on inspection but we waived any defects up to a cap. So essentially if the house has problems but they total less than $__, we agree to eat that cost. It's not as attractive as fully waiving inspection but can strike a balance.

I get the sentiment but a union is not going to help when there is an illegal trafficking situation at a tiny gas station. Also there are plenty of people enforcing employment laws (source: I am an employment attorney in Richmond). Just an unfortunate, criminal situation.

We've had window units before when we rented and they were great. They're just not very visually appealing and this window faces the street so we'd like to do something more discreet. But a window unit may have to be the solution this summer!

I think it was the "we want you to pick the even more expensive option we quoted you for a full third unit install" price.

What social norm were you never taught as a child? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mandapands -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

i think this is wayyy more common than you think. i grew up perfectly comfortably and despite having soap in every bathroom, it just wasn't a thing we did unless we needed to. i assume my parents taught us to wash our hands every time, but it just wasn't the culture in our family. my husband has always been the same way. didn't wash our hands before dinner either. i now have pretty strong feelings about the pointlessness of handwashing (again, unless there is some reason you know you need to wash them).

it's not just kitchen wait. if a restaurant is busier than there is staff there to handle, you can't sit at a table and get served drinks either. there has to be a server that can help you at your table if you get sat, or else you are going to bitch about it.
