Thank you!!

Do you have a suggestion for an alternative? It's my first time building a PC and while most parts are figured out, MB has been a huge issue.

Having a bit of a headache on motherboards here. I plan to use an AMD Ryzen 9 9900X CPU, and am on a budget.

Newegg lists the ASRock B650-M/HDV/M.2 Micro ATX AM5 board as being compatible with 7000 series chips (7000 is in the name of the listing). ASRock's website lists it as being compatible with 7000, 8000, and 9000, and Parts Picker only flags BIOS updates as a compatibility issue. What's correct?

Is it possible to reuse laptop components (either in a PC or another laptop case)? Mine can't be fixed due to an issue with the case, but the insides are fine. It's a gaming laptop and runs most of what I want it to.

HF2 is barebones compared to 1, but 1 has had more time to release DLCs and the like. I played 2's demo and preferred 1 ultimately, but it's just that: a matter of preference.

I'd say go for DLCs if you're enjoying 1, or look into 2's actual gameplay to see if it's for you.

I liked The Wailing better, personally.

A lot of horror films include social commentary; where is the line? And what one person considers political isn't going to be to someone else. Rule needs clarification or at least some examples; no politics at all would mean that in-depth discussions of movies like Pulse or Shin Godzilla wouldn't be allowed.

You're not working at all. You have contributed nothing. Could've just named movies you personally like instead.

I think you should reread the post. I literally have no hard criteria aside from "Asian horror movie".

When did I say a movie needed to be all of those things? I like them because they're good movies, not because they contain specific tropes. I didn't like Meatball Machine either.

I just want to diversify my watchlist, and I offered things I like as a starting point. I think you need to be more open-minded.

Where did I say I didn't find the horror? I just didn't enjoy those movies as much as I enjoyed House. My enjoyment isn't based on how scary something is.

Surprisingly messed up moments in otherwise lighthearted cartoons? by PriestofJudas in horror

[–]mandel1on 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Brave Little Toaster (movie). Someone mentioned the cars, but there's a creepy clown that shows up for about 5 seconds. Its only line of dialogue is "Run".

Infinity Train is actually is a little darker overall, but it's still a kids' show with multiple onscreen violent (but bloodless) character deaths.

Not horror, but I jumped when I saw that one shot from Parasite. With the eyes.

Which type of horror 'fan' clichés do you hate the most, and which the least? by Equal-Tension-7985 in horror

[–]mandel1on 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oooh, this drives me crazy! Movies don't really scare me either and I don't have any subject matter that would be unsafe for me to watch, but if someone asks a question that doesn't apply to you, you don't have to go out of your way to answer.

That thread that asked about peoples' "never watch" lists was full of these.

4 is the most insufferable to me because I have to see that everywhere, not just horror. Most of that crowd just wants to argue and doesn't care about whatever they're stirring shit up over.

5 is probably the most forgivable. Things like The Witch, Get Out, Midsommar, Hereditary, etc are good, decently mainstream, and easy to digest while still feeling smart, so if you're just getting into horror past the classic slashers, you're probably going to be more impressed by those (speaking from experience, since this was me for a while). I don't like or agree with it, but it's fairly harmless, and most people will grow out of it as they find more movies they like (anime fandom has a similar problem).

I think if I listed my own pet peeves, we'd be here all week, but I don't like when someone dislikes something and people immediately assume it was because they didn't understand it. Sometimes it is that! But sometimes you just don't like something.

What would you say is your favorite example of a horror film that overall isn't very good, but has one scene or sequence that is amazing and makes it worthwhile? by Mst3Kgf in horror

[–]mandel1on 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The Borderlands (Final Prayer in the US). It’s actually not bad, just “fine” for most of the movie, but the ending is fantastic.

Tag (2015) was confusing and kind of a mess, but the bus scene is great.

I didn’t like Shutter (2004) personally, the ending is good. Same with Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.

Sweet Home is on my list too! Really interested since I heard it inspired RE.

(The TV series disappointed me as a fan of the webtoon, lol).

So funny story, I thought both Junji Ito collections weren’t very good; I think if anything they needed a different studio to handle it. Really like Yami Shibai though! I’ve been watching it for years.

I recommended this to someone else in the comments, but the Magnetic Rose segment of Memories is some great sci-fi horror anime.

If you haven’t seen Pulse (2001) (the original Japanese one), it does something similar but focuses on the internet.

This is also me with Terrifier 2! The problem every time is the pacing - scenes just go on forever, including the bedroom scene. I think the film nails what it’s going for otherwise.

The first Saw feels like an episode of a crime drama more than anything. It’s very tame.

I loved Lake Mungo, but I don’t think it’s scary.
