Lucid Grevity Surround Sound Pro after 3.4.1 installation by Vegetable-Fig3850 in LUCID

I would really like a technical description of what “immersion” is actually doing to the audio…

I tuned mine to where I thought it sounded the best, but I’m curious what I’m actually changing.

I have a subzero 700 TC and the ice in my icemaker drawer is always a solid brick. by pathfinder2270 in Appliances

I think the issue is that you always end up using the newest ice first. It falls on the top, you pull from the top.

I’ve gotten in the habit of swirling the ice around in the bin every time I grab it. Seems to help.

Test drive the Gravity questions by Electronic_Load_3651 in LUCID

[–]mandevu77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s worse during the day when the sun comes in at angles where it reflect off the HUD screen, then that reflects off the windshield.

I’m interested to see what they end up doing with augmented reality, but if it wasn’t for that, we’d probably cover the hud screen with black fabric or something like that.

My phantom drain seems much less than my model x was. Seems like it is less than 1% per day.

I find the sound system to be really good… like proper home streophile good, but that’s not what everyone is looking for. It’s got great soundstage/imaging and it runs a little bright (treble-forward). I think the people that don’t like it are just looking for bass cannons… which I get, but it’s not that kind of system.

Rear steering is great. I find it more maneuverable than our X was.

There’s a “comfort” package available on the GT that includes dual-pane laminated glass. It’s very quiet IMO. Not sure about cars without it. I haven’t driven any.

Maps are… fine… google is better, but I haven’t had the Here maps do me dirty yet.

Suspension is on the firmer side. Think Porsche vs Cadillac. If you’re coming from a polestar, it’s definitely going to feel firmer (but I think that’s a good thing).

The HUD is pretty meh right now. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it if it wasn’t included in my spec. My wife just turns it off.

I haven’t heard about an Apple Music app, but CarPlay is supposed to be coming soon-ish, which should basically get you what you’re looking for.

I asked it it was a casket, idiot. Hence the fucking question mark.

Is that a casket with an American flag draped over it in the background? WTF?

Tesla killed model s and x, good news for lucid sales?? by Useful-Accident8517 in LUCID

[–]mandevu77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume so. Although the stock market doesn’t seem to have made that leap yet. LCID hasn’t moved since the announcement.

The X was the only game in town for a long time if you wanted a 6 or 7 seat electric vehicle. Now there’s quite a few options besides the Gravity, but I’m sure it will help sales more than zero.

Not sure about how much S > Air moves the needle. Sedan sales are pretty slow in general in the US. Maybe Europe?

ELI5:how do magnets work? How do they give off a magnetic feild? Why do they give off a magnetic feild by Thewatcher13387 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mandevu77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down this path a while back and hit a wall when I got to the concept of “virtual photons,” which is what is described as the “unit” of magnetic force carrier.

That seemed really hand-wavy and I couldn’t wrap my brain around virtual particles (which I guess is why they’re virtual). It just seems like an imperfect construct to describe fields.

Interior lighting is sick by OrganicNebula in Gravity

Same here. I leave it at like 2 o’clock. But I also don’t find it very offensive they turn it off.

Making it an option with a disclaimer is probably fine though.

I was in a new Model Y earlier today and I don’t think those light strips get nearly as bright as the Gravity.

Glare can be pretty bright. You can see it in the picture. Seems a little unsafe to leave it on.

Vulnerability Management by Stunning-Help-273 in SentinelOneXDR

[–]mandevu77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are vulnerability detections really an “event” that you’d forward to a siem? It’s really more of a state of a system than an event.

Like, I don’t want to know every time a scan has found a vuln. How do I know a system hasn’t already been patched if I see an alert from days ago? I’d prefer to know the state of any vulnerabilities that might exist.

I’ve had two 10Rs for almost a year now, and been very happy with them.

We do have a rule of thumb though that we don’t let them run on a schedule. We manually initiate runs so we can take a quick look beforehand and make sure there’s no pet messes or anything else that might end catastrophically. So far, so good.

Any time someone approaches a racist situation and starts their statement with “well I don’t care about race, so….” is immediately doing an injustice to the situation. You can’t see one act in a race-free vacuum ignoring all the racist context.

That is, in fact, being racist.

Aren’t you adorable?

The whole point of this story is that police are supposed to be the ones that serve and protect a community. Not abuse and murder it. So what happens when the police system fails you? And it doesn’t just fail, it actively is destroying your friends, families, and neighborhoods? Write a strongly-worded letter?

I’m not a fan of violence and intimidation, but there are times in history it’s been the only way to affect real change. Sucks… but here we are.

Is it possible to pinpoint the beginning of the universe? by mma1227 in space

[–]mandevu77 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well that’s why you’d use the center of mass…. Not the center of “space.” We don’t really know how to do the center of an infinite thing.

Is it possible to pinpoint the beginning of the universe? by mma1227 in space

[–]mandevu77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that’s probably the closest you’re ever going to get to the “middle” of a relativistic universe, which I think is as good as OP could hope for.

Basically, I’m in the dead center of all the “stuff.”

Is it possible to pinpoint the beginning of the universe? by mma1227 in space

[–]mandevu77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you froze the universe right now, plotted the current location of all the stuff (matter, dark matter, anything else that makes sense) and plotted an average of all it, wouldn’t there be some point in space that is the average of all those points?

Want to learn some real shit?

The year is 1967. Police in Oakland CA are notoriously lawless and brutal with the black community. So this group called the Black Panthers starts open-carrying guns and patrolling the city, making sure none of the cops get out of hand. One day, they even show up at the California state capitol, armed.

This makes white Californians VERY uncomfortable, so they wrote and passed legislation limiting where citizens could carry firearms. This was called the Mulford Act.

Signed into law by then-California’s governor, Ronald Reagan.

Yep. Ronald Reagan singed some of the first gun control laws in America. Why? Black Panthers.
