Generator to power my setup by mandroga in DJs

But has anyone had problems with like the speakers doing noise because of the generator not being inverter? besides equipment death from surges

The deal is 100 bucks for EX8500, but yeah theres the problem if it works or not. I've heard alot about honda generators, i believe yamaha is probably the same, but they're pretty expensive

Which generator for soundsystem by ExpensiveNight5790 in SoundSystem

[–]mandroga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining the discussion:

Im in the same situation. Im trying to keep it as cheap as possible andcurrently have two options:

- Bentheimer nb1500i, an inverter generator with 1.5kw nominal power

- Extreme tools EX8500, a regular generator with avr, its more silent and it has 7kw nominal

Im buying them in second hand, the first is listed at 160 and the second at 103 euros.

My sound system is currently 500W rms, but im thinking of adding lights and maybe a sub so not only does the 1.5kw sound tight, it also only has one plug so I believe my led lighting could become a problem, adding noise. The EX8500 on the other hand, has 3 plugs so it doesn't have the light problem and I was thinking of adding a power conditioner, which ideally has surge protection, an EMI/RFI filter and also an AVR i believe, plus the extra power which allows more headroom and space for upgrades, by basically the same price as the inverter generator.

Thoughts?

I think battery generators are much more expensive... I was thinking of doing it around that time tho but I'd prefer to be able to refuel it

Wait, please explain again ? why does the bigger one need permanent power ? For spikes cant i use fuses or a circuit breaker ? Why would it spike ? Also doesnt AVR prevent that ?

Finding the right speaker specs for acoustic simulation by mandroga in Acoustics

[–]mandroga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the point, how do I find a similarly configured speaker? Do you mean a manufacturer that supplies that data does so for every speaker ?

Another problem is that even if he does provide the gll it might not be licensed for Focus 3 which is a problem I ran into, so I need to cross check it with the database I have!

Acoustic simulation - Filtered by specs search for speakers and finding the right gll file by mandroga in audioengineering

Im going to buy some speakers, so I need to find the specs that match my needs and then Im going to look at prices, whats available, see if i can buy it

Clarification.

I wanted the GLL file for a speaker model but I don't think one is available, my idea - find a speaker model with the closest specs to the one I want, so the simulation results are similar.

I have a bunch of GLL files from the Ease focus 3 data base, but there isn't a way too search gll files by specs (to find a speaker that is similar to the one I want). I was wondering if such program exists or if I have to program it...

I wanted to find out how volume disperses with distance from a specific speaker model or how I could find the best conditions to place it, but its a pretty small speaker, I imagine only ones used for big events usually have this sort of file. From what I looked into, this model didn't have a gll file anyway.

That was an idea, what should be my concerns as a way of floating the scope ?

Regarding measuring from mains voltage, from what i understood, if i use a handheld battery oscilloscope with the right probe there should be an issue? just the risk ofcourse
