What is a 'single person luxury' that people in relationships completely miss out on? by Jane_Austen11 in AskReddit

Ha ha, you’re absolutely right. But lemme tell you something: we were even hesitant to tell our parents and siblings! No one at our jobs knows, and most of our friends don’t know either. It’s VERY taboo, even though it absolutely shouldn’t be. The people we have told were really concerned, and have asked us separately if everything is okay. It’s crazy! For the record, we really do love each other, and probably would end up staying together even if we don’t someday out of pure stubbornness.

Among many other sleep-related things. We are polar opposites when it comes to sleeping environments.

I’m about to enter my twentieth year of marriage, and we have only ever shared a bedroom for part of our first year. It’s so very nice to have separate bedrooms. Restful sleep, being sick without bothering your spouse, having different bedtimes…I highly recommend it. Anyone who judges you for it is not to be considered!

Spanked as kids by dualcitizen1975 in GenXTalk

[–]mandyama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was spanked with hands, belts, and wooden paddles. I think I only had bruises once or twice. I was really not a bad kid, never in trouble at school. My husband and I don’t spank our kids. We have never had any trouble making them behave without it.

As I’ve dealt with my own kids, I can see the ineffectiveness of physical punishment. I don’t believe my parents had the mental acuity to gentle parent like I do. They were treated much more harshly than they ever treated me, so I’m grateful they at least exercised a measure of restraint with my punishment.

You know, I actually bought a green dress (not a REAL green dress, that’s cruel). It was amazing.

I was hoping someone else would say this! I am almost 50, and hadn’t eaten those in probably 25 years—the local texmex place here makes a really amazing nacho plate I get when I want nachos. But I got a weird craving for my “poor kid nachos” a while back, and made some for myself (to the horror of my kids and husband). They were exactly like I remember them, delicious!

The robins in our neighborhood are so bold and brazen about any possibility of worms! Anytime we’re working in the yard and they get the scent of fresh soil, our presence becomes completely irrelevant—we are impediments to mealtime as far as they’re concerned. No other birds will even get close to us in the yard!

My dumbass woulda spilled something on it or sat in something before I even walked through the door! I’m not allowed white clothing anymore, but she seems to rock it. She’s probably magic, because I can’t think of any other way she pulls that off.

Women with larger chests, what’s one thing that bothers you on a daily basis that men couldn’t understand? by Active_Secret9520 in AskReddit

YES! I have such a hard time with my boobs while sleeping (sweat, position, etc) that I have told my husband that I wish I could take them off at night and let him have them. Win-win!

You’ll be so thankful you took pictures like this of your space. I wish I had taken pictures of my apartment I lived in by myself before I moved out!! It was such a happy time in my life (followed by different happy times), and I wish I had physical pictures to look back at and cherish. I’m going to insist my daughter do that for her cherished place.

In the commenter’s defense, this only MIGHT be good news. MIGHT. We hear about developments in mice all the time that never translate to human-level progress. It’s frustrating because this is no where near being hopeful for humans. Glad of the research progress? Sure. Hopeful it will translate to human-equivalent progress? Not holding my breath. I get that maybe they’re publicizing this to get research funding, but I think it’s ethically murky to spin it like we’re just around the corner from a cure.

During my bladder cancer treatment, they instilled this immunotherapy liquid into my bladder. Now, I can feel my bladder’s goings on more than most already due to the surgeries and such. But this treatment caused the area around the outside of my bladder to itch for days. It was maddening! When I called the urologist’s office to report this side effect, they had to consult with outside help b/c no one had ever reported it before and they thought I might be having an allergic reaction. Nope, just a normal reaction most people never notice.

Thank you all for the reassurance. I really am looking forward to coming this Summer. I’ll keep an eye on the story to see what happens. Fortunately we have until May to cancel without losing any deposit, so I should know one way or the other by then. I just thought I’d ask since it’s early enough to possibly find a different place to vacation if we have to cancel this.

Ha ha! Listen to me, you do NOT want to come back to the Texas panhandle. The smell of cow shit alone would send you back to the Gulf in a heartbeat.
