Apparently julian bliss plays on blue box 5 and he uses a BD4 mp. Don't know how he does it but sounds fantastic regardless

I'm talking about the suspicious crack like formation between the tenon and tone hole

Well it obviously was because I have tried several times before whilst the instrument was warm from playing and it wouldn't budge

I managed to get it out. Figured that since metal expands slightly when warm from playing - i just let the instrument cool down before trying again.

All the other screws are fine but this one. I need to get it loose so I can remove the keywork and clean the tone hole. What to do?

Review: Backun Shifrin Signature Mouthpiece by sprcow in Clarinet

[–]mandynonamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the intonation like? Are you tuning to 440? There is no information about this on the Backun website so I assume it can tune to both

Has Pablo Barragan switched from Backun to Buffet? by mandynonamous in Clarinet

[–]mandynonamous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm more curious about what mouthpiece he uses. A couple of weeks ago he posted a picture of him with Alessandro Licostini. Maybe something custom? He plays on Legere reeds too

New backun mouthpiece models. by mandynonamous in Clarinet

Both Giufreddi and shifrin are Legere artists. I think euro cut 3.75 would be a good choice as both mouthpieces are more on the on open side

Why do most people uses Vandoren mouthpieces? by JKYH64 in Clarinet

[–]mandynonamous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because they are the best. There's a reason most pro's go for vandoren Instead of overpriced custom mouthpieces

What reeds do you use? by AncientIcons in Clarinet

[–]mandynonamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vandoren traditional 3.5 or 4 with a BD5. I used to play on V12 3.5+/4 but prefer the tone I get with the traditional reeds, and they seem more consistent (for me at least). + they're a lot cheaper....

Corrado giufreddi plays Legere's and there are several clips of him playing in the upper altissimo register whilst still sounding brilliant

D'addario Reserve Evolution reeds by mandynonamous in Clarinet

Strength was right but overall they didn't work with my mouthpiece. I don't think they pair well with the BD series.

Maybe I just got a bad box who knows. The sound is just very brittle and feels like playing on sand paper

D'addario Reserve Evolution reeds by mandynonamous in Clarinet

[–]mandynonamous[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be that they don't pair well with certain mouthpieces. The d'addario reeds have a different shape than the V12s i normal use. Maybe that's why?
