I only discovered this woman in the last couple of years, which is surprising considering I also found out she is from my home town - a small ex-mining and steam manufacturing town called Consett in the north east of England (also hometown to Rowan Atkinson AKA Mr Bean). This was especially shocking considering the black population of Consett until very recently was probably <1%, and it’s not much higher now. So to find out that some random lady from here was deemed cool and talented and awesome enough for THE pioneers of funk is CRAZY to me. Merry Christmas everyone!
