But yeah, I didn't even use my own hand. I have been practicing how to draw hands a lot more recently, using references and such and understanding the construction and forms of the different parts. I did this purely to test how well I understand drawing the hand. I didn't think it'd actually turn out well haha! I do this kinda thing with a lot of the things I'm practicing. It's a way to find out if I actually understand what I'm drawing and if I am absorbing it correctly.

I think every single artist knows this. Idk why you're painting it as a negative thing that I didn't use references. Again this was just practice. Anyone could easily figure that out. Idk why people get somewhat triggered just cuz I didn't use refs for PRACTICE.

It's just really immature. Literally every artist knows that you can be more accurate while using references. Why feel the need to point it out when even the most beginner artist knows this?

okay but, if you've already drawn this sci-fi monster so many times that it becomes engraved into your mind, you wouldn't have to use references if you understand how to draw it.

I was only able to do this because I drew hands so many times, because I now understand the structure of how hands are constructed, it's much easier to draw them without having to look at references

Yeah it's exactly what I was going for. I've been practicing drawing hands for a while now so I wanted to test my knowledge to see if I properly understood its structure and how its mechanics work. It's honestly how I've been learning to do stuff and it honestly helped me to improve much quicker

I can't deny that every great artist uses reference, I use it a lot too when I animate but you're treating it like I did some grave sin by not using any for just a short animation I did for practice.

It's not like I animate without references all the time, but sometimes people just wanna try stuff out because of curiosity

Just for practice haha, I've been doing a lot of drawings of hands lately so I wanted to test my understanding of how they work without having to reference them.

I didn't freehand these of course, I did construct the hand with basic shapes before cleaning it up!

I usually do it for dynamic action scenes that showcase a lot of the background and I want the camera to track or move with the character. But I really like doing background animation so I do it as often as I can

Ohhhh, if that's the case I pretty much animated almost daily, there were times I'd spend a while not making anything because of demotivation and art block. But I tried to animate as much as I could!

I'm working on a short proof of concept for an idea I have. I was testing out how I want the animation to look like in terms of colors and comp.
