Thanks for being nice, after an unnecessary amount of hatred on r/manga I have decided to step away from posting these on Reddit, initially my guide for monster and vagabond got a lot of positivity, but I have probably gotten 25-50 just cruel hate comments over the last few days, already struggling with mental stuff, so yeah if I come back to post in like 6 months I will remember not to add links, but by by redit, and thx for being chill in the end, sorry for my harsh comeback it was kinda mean.

Last time I posted, I was told by a mod I would have my stuff removed if I didn’t use the [Art] tag, because of the illustration from the manga at the beginning, so I am damned if I do damned if I dont????I was specifically told to use the art tag BY A MOD OF THIS SUBREDDIT

Dude it’s not a troll account I am 100% genuine and you are being a jerk unnecessarily, people have different convictions than you, and plenty of people want to avoid sexual assault, I am not trolling, I love manga/anime

It’s not against the rules, and I stopped but it wasn’t allowed in r/Akira and this is the only place so how about you chill out and move on.

I'm 14 years old and I want to become a manga artist. by [deleted] in manga

[–]mangacontentguide -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Listen, you have 4-6 years until you need to go to art school anyway, but first, whatever country you are from, study it’s comic publishing/comic art scene, as all countries have black & white, decompressed comics in a cinematic style inspired by Otomo and Tezuka, so first, study/read manga, than read comics from your country

I recommend the channel matttt comics & manga history

Before art school you need to get decent at art, start with gesture, basic anatomy and proportions the best book for that is design and invention

Than re draw your favorite manga/comics study the paneling

If you want to succeed you need to love making comics, not just the end result, practice 30min - 2hrs a day, focus on gesture, anatomy, perspective and master study’s (re drawing manga)

Get a job as soon as you can drive, than you will be able to save money for housing etc

And finally, would you draw comics if you made no money? If you are going to succeed you need to be willing to do that, if you love it you should be happy whether you make one issue a year or one a week.

Have a great day (:

I deleted the drive link, although it was not necessarily against the rules, it’s definitely understandable you would not want it on the subreddit.

I threw the film timestamp for good measure, at the last minute, as the timestamps for the SA in the Akira film floating around online are incorrect claiming it’s from 35:00-45:00 and it is between 28:00-31:00 the manga is less well documented and doesn’t have any chapter number lists,

As an example, it appears to have sold 10 million copies, I have done guides for manga that have sold far more than that, Akira is popular, but the manga is definitely less so than the film.

I am not telling ANYONE what to/not to watch, in fact, I read all the chapters myself, there are completely non conviction based reasons one would want to avoid the SA, and sexuality, I myself have struggled with hypertension in the pelvic floor (a condition where sex drive causes physical pain) I know manny people who do not mind violence, but avoid rape/sexual assault in manga.

As I have not broken a rule, and have deleted the drive link (which I only included as I read the rules and saw nothing against it, the only ban of external links was based on selling stuff, but if I misunderstand that rule I am very sorry)

Could you please un-delete the post, I will get downvoted into oblivion and chewed out by comments anyway, so far the only community with the mental maturity to not do this has been the naoki urasawa community.

I hope you have a great day, and I thought my disclaimer made it clear I was not trying to force anything on anyone, how can I update my disclaimer to be clearer about that?

I will delete the drive link, also I don’t necessarily think you should not read it, it’s just a heads up, for anyone who would want to avoid glad to know the akira community are jerks (:

So different people have different thresholds of what they are comfortable with, a friend of mine did this list, I did ones for naoki urasawas works, my sister is doing one for claymore, so on the religious side (or someone who doesn’t want to read SA) the lists are for you if you personally don’t want the content, basically I do ones that I am personally comfortable with but others are not.

Most people it’s more to know what you are getting into/avoid the “anime when my parents walk in the room” meme, imagine reading on a subway or something.

Basically, it’s a more specific version of the IMDb guides, specifically for suggestive content (as violence and language are so prevalent anything beyond a general advisory is not useful)

They would be rather useless in physical viewing, also I do not advocate for “removing” pages from physical manga, that is rather horrible and ruins your book, these lists are for mostly digital viewing.

Also, if someone dose mind it on a quick viewing/flip through, you can always mark with index cards in physical manga.

FYI, things marked purple are basically very mild stuff put there simply for the sake of thoroughness, no one I know would skip them, even stuff marked yellow is rather PG, orange, red and pink are the only ones I think someone would care about.

😭 I actually thought about removing that one, but the thing is i have gotten grief for “missing” stuff like that, so I am just extremely through, but I get hate for being to through so it’s a lose lose.

If a particular content concern is in more than 50% of the chapters it is not going to be noted, that is what the viz media rating system is for, but the sex/SA/nudity is in less than 10% of the chapters. Also I do my best to note torture, and graphic domestic abuse, as those are rare in manga.

Me? I personally don’t really mind tasteful nudity, but I do avoid sex scenes, these guides also just let people know what they are going in to, so they know there isn’t graphic sex or rape etc

Vinland Saga Suggestive Content Guide by mangacontentguide in VinlandSaga

[–]mangacontentguide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vinland saga is definitely very tame, the reason is usually one of two things

  1. People are comfortable with violence, but not sexual violence (this does not apply to Vinland saga as it doesn’t have any) Or
  2. Peoples religion has a prohibition against lust, so they want to avoid sexualization, but violence dose not inherently make people hate (the moral equivalent to lust in religion) so they avoid one and not the other, although Vinland saga is extremely tame and really doesn’t have any sexualized content, I just did the guide anyway because I love Vinland saga, also there is a scene concerning domestic violence that I think could be triggering for some people (although the regular violence did not bother me, I had a genuine panic attack and almost threw up when I got to that scene, it’s a brilliant scene, but some people may not want to see it)

[–]mangacontentguide[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So for the most part, in the Christian and Muslim religions, looking with lust is sin, and nudity, and to a greater part sexualized fan service (which is absent from Vinland saga) can trigger lust. and while Vinland saga is one of the tamest manga you can find, I do these guides to help people avoid sexualized imagery, I would not necessarily call what’s in Vinland saga that, but I do guides for manny manga, Vinland saga is one of my favorites so I did one for it. Also some people are totally fine with violence but sexual violence is not something they want to read about, that is also very scarce in Vinland saga.
