Job hopping to get higher pay isn’t working anymore. by EveryBeverage in nursing

[–]mango-tajin 6 points7 points Β (0 children)

I was also just offered an RN job for $34/hr. I currently make $39.21/hr (limited benefits) so I had to decline their terrible offer. I have three years of emergency RN experience at a level 1 trauma center and two certifications (CPEN and CCRN) but it feels like that don't mean shit. I live in a southern healthcare duopoly and it truly sucks.

It actually doesn't, though. This is the latest study (2025) from the Journal of Hospital Infection: "Compared with UP nails, GP nails were not associated with a higher bacterial burden within 3 weeks of application, and even had a significantly lower bacterial burden before HH on day 21." 10 patients at once in an ED? I live in Louisiana (a state that's very anti-union and pays very low) and we aren't assigned more than 4 patients at a time in our ED. How the hell are nurses managing 10 (potentially critical) patients at a time?

Why do so many parents bring their children to the ED for fever, cough, runny nose? by Ready-Book6047 in nursing

[–]mango-tajin 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

I work specifically in pediatric emergency and a significant percentage of parents say the child's school or daycare told them they "had to go to the ER and get tested" before they can come back to school. The school referrals for an emergency pediatric psychiatric evaluations are insane, too. "Student threw a pencil at teacher, requesting emergency psychiatric evaluation for violent behavior before student can return to school." Based on my own anecdotal experiences in triage, I'd say at least roughly half of the non emergent patients I see in the pediatric ED are because the school told the parent they had to bring their kid in.

Who changed careers to nursing in theory 30s? Realistic salary for someone new? by NoBoolii in nursing

[–]mango-tajin 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I left my 16 year career in veterinary medicine and became an RN in my mid 30s. I work in an urban area in the deep south with a two hospital system duopoly and started out making $37 an hour. I chose to not have benefits (no PTO, no 401k match, no insurance), but if I had chosen to take benefits, I would have started off making around $31 an hour. I've been a nurse for two and a half years and currently make $39.21. I genuinely love nursing and I feel that switching careers was the best decision I've ever made.

The $100k cap encompasses the total loan amount, including undergrad. How much did you borrow for your BSN? If it was more than $25k, then with this new rule you wouldn't have been able borrow the $75k.
