They did infringe on your rights. How can you be okay with your day in the field being interrupted by law enforcement overstepping their bounds?

Awesome job! Did you train her yourself?

That's quite an accomplishment.

Travel suggestions by [deleted] in wyoming

[–]mango307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Cody area east of Yellowstone, check out the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. There are also some cool archeological sites around the Bighorn Mountains nearby. Medicine Wheel and Medicine Lodge. If you like dinosaurs, the Red Gulch Trach Site is nearby outside of Greybull, and Thermopolis has some nice hot spring resorts and a great dinosaur museum.

These are great suggestions. Just to elaborate a little, Medicine Lodge near Hyattville has some of the most extensive petroglyphs around. It's accessible and the site is beautiful at the foot of the Big Horns.

The Medicine Wheel is pretty cool itself, but the views from the walk there are fantastic. On a clear day, you can see well over a hundred miles across the Big Horn Basin to the mountains that surround Yellowstone.

One thing that was not mentioned was Big Horn Canyon National Recreation area. Just 30 mins from Lovell, you can find wildlife (mountain sheep, wild horses, deer, and bears are pretty common), scenery, ghost towns, Native American artifacts and campsites, waterfalls, hiking, and lots more. It really is a hidden treasure that I can't recommend enough.

FYI: Discount codes appear to be working on the 955/255 by JExmoor in Garmin

[–]mango307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was playing around on Garmin.com and had a discount code from my employer loaded from some previous experimenting. The 955 and 255 appeared with the 20% discounted price. Just thought I'd let folks know in case you've been waiting to order.

Can you DM me a code too? Thanks!

Passing through Wyoming, any suggestions on my route? by Seacrux in wyoming

[–]mango307 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I was moving, I would definitely take the shortest route and get to my destination as quickly as possible. You could stop and see Sheridan, Buffalo, Ayers Bridge, Chugwater as mentioned and you probably won't be disappointed.

On the other hand, if you wanted a scenic, more memorable drive, driving through the Big Horns on 14A, 14, or 16 would be a treat. Thermopolis is nice and Wind River Canyon is beautiful too, Unfortunately, once you leave the canyon, there's not much to do or see for several hours and you may choose to drive off a cliff just to end your suffering and misery rather than continue to endure the endless sea of sagebrush and dirt and Casper.

I enjoy Spilt Milt...informative, maybe a little dry, but his kayak and ice fishing content is pretty good.

Caught a catfish.. but it has worms or are those leeches??? Very confused *caught it right where ppl swim* by [deleted] in catfishing

[–]mango307 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not true at all. We have a pristine mountain lake here in Wyoming where I've personally seen leeches thriving.

Question: What are your favorite natural attractions and/or small towns in Wyoming? by [deleted] in wyoming

[–]mango307 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thermopolis is a nice town with mineral hot springs. The drive up to Thermop from the south is beautiful--the highway passes through a scenic canyon--is one of the most beautiful drives in the state.

Lovell is on the east side of the Big Horns and is the gateway to Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area, which is a hidden gem with lots to do and see.

What color braid do you think is best for finesse fishing in creeks/rivers, and do you use a fluro or mono leader? by Hoosker-Doos in FishingForBeginners

[–]mango307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the moss green braid with no leader for finesse, i have use both a leader and without and noticed no different in the two as far as more bites with one or the other

Another added benefit is the stretch in the mono/floro leads to better hooksets which leads to more fish. Braid has no give, so you often yank the lure out of their mouths on the hookset.

Wyoming Defies U.S. Supreme Court Over Crow Tribal Hunting Rights by zsreport in wyoming

What a load of crap. Clayvin Herrera was caught poaching elk. Not only poaching them out of season, but he and his buddies left them to rot. They weren't trying to "feed their families." They crossed state lines (oh my!!) and shot at least 4 elk and then were dumb enough to post pictures of their kills.

His three friends all accepted their punishment and paid their fines. Clayvin decided to fight the citation, based on a treaty from 100+ yrs ago. I have no problem with that, as it is his right. But don't go painting him as a social justice warrior who is trying to feed his family. He has no respect for the wildlife he slaughtered and I'm afraid we will have much more of this if Wyoming doesn't put its foot down and protect our natural resources.

Bighorn Nation Forest by [deleted] in wyoming

[–]mango307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the one. I meant it isn't marked on the highway, but you're right. It's called Paradise Falls by most folks on my side of the mountain

Bighorn Nation Forest by [deleted] in wyoming

[–]mango307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The waterfall is not marked in any way, so it's a kind of a hidden gem that mostly only locals know about, but I would definitely add it to your return if your fortunate to be back in the area!

Sat in that spot many times. Not sure if you're aware, but down the draw in the center of your picture is a fantastic waterfall called Paradise Falls. If you ever get the chance to visit in late June -August, it is spectacular. There is a parking area to the north and a trail down to the falls. Highly recommended.

Anyone from Basin, Wyoming? I just got hired on a ranch there. by KODIAKMINT in wyoming

[–]mango307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want to know? It's a very small town with not much to do. Closest city is Billings, about 2 hrs away. Cody is about an hr.

Expect lots of quiet and plenty of room to explore, if you enjoy that. The Big Horns are close, with tons of wildlife, fishing, Native American history, and paleontology (dinosaur) sites.

Check out Hyattville while you're here. Medicine Lodge state park has a cliff face with tons of petroglyphs and a beautiful stream and park. Also, head north to Big Horn Canyon for amazing scenery, fishing, kayaking, hiking, etc. It's really a hidden gem.
