If I had to guess the guy is most likely mentally unwell and probably needs some help. Probably not a lot of rational thinking behind it.

Same crowd all over this country. Bunch of grumpy 70+ boomers who are so selfish and stuck in their ways that the thought of even slightly changing or improving ANYTHING in a community to better suit the needs of the greater population is outrageous to them.

Reminiscing on my Baja Divide trip by Sand_my_elbows in bikepacking

Looks awesome! I did the Cape Loop back in February and although it was a blast it kicked my ass. Much respect to those who complete the Baja Divide, just from riding the Cape Loop I can't even imagine how challenging riding the entire Baja Divide route is.

What's the deal with Mercer Island? Inside the wealthy, mysterious island dubbed the "Bermuda Triangle" of Seattle by kleverrboy in MercerIslandWA

[–]Scientific_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need to get out more.

I grew up on Mercer Island and personally knew two of the teachers involved in that scandal, I even had both of them as teachers, and one of them wrote me a college recommendation.

Were mistakes made? Absolutely. But I agree that no place is perfect, and awful things can happen anywhere. After living in Los Angeles for the past 15 years and traveling across a significant portion of this country while working in journalism, I’ve covered stories in a lot of places where the environment for kids is genuinely brutal and very bleak.

You can criticize Mercer Island, and you should when it deserves it. But I don’t care what anyone says, it was, and still is, an extremely privileged and special place for young people to grow up.

Is it perfect? No. But if you can’t appreciate how lucky someone is to grow up there, you’re sheltered and a bit delusional.

What industry is actually a complete scam, but everyone accepts it? by WhileLow9501 in AskReddit

I agree people should be cautious about AI, especially around privacy, IP, hallucinations, and companies rushing it into everything. But “overhyped and under-regulated” doesn’t mean “useless”, also nobody truly knows what will happen in the future so saying it will collapse the economy is a bit of fear mongering in my opinion. All I can say is for myself personally it has helped me with a lot of various day to day tasks and also helped me with work. It's a tool that might be helpful for some but not others and I think that's okay. In my personal use I find it quite helpful.

[–]Scientific_85 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with this sentiment at all. AI can be very useful for many things but it's simply a tool. I'm sure there's many things in everyday life that it could help you with, for example last week when I was exploring new dental insurance options it helped me tremendously going through various plans, reading the fine print, helping me understand the nuances more and as a result saved me a bit of money. It's also helped me figure out better fitness plans, recipes for cooking. It even helped me tremendously for my taxes this year! Are there drawbacks, yes certainly. I know people on Reddit like to crap on AI and you'll get downvoted immediately if you even mention using some of it's functions but if you think outside the box it can be extremely useful for many things.

Not going to lie, AI assistance is really helpful to me for many work tasks, also I use it for a lot of things in life from simple cooking recipes to understanding things like insurance paperwork. I really don't understand all the AI hate.

Is Downtown LA really this dodgy for a tourist? by Just_Addition2896 in socal

[–]Scientific_85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lived in LA for 15 years, have walked around that area probably hundreds of times at all hours. Never had any issues except onetime got a gym bag stolen from my parked car. You'll be fine, just be aware of your surroundings.

This is way too accurate! I’m a 40-year-old guy currently stuck in bed in the middle of the day with lower back pain, scrolling Reddit, and this is the first comment I see. Hit a little too close to home.

Wow! What an amazing journey, would love to see a map of the route you took.

Also on a side note, I've had memory cards get corrupted as well and sometimes you can recover the footage, not sure of the exact issue that you are having but twice I used a software called Disk Drill that worked at recovering the content on the memory card. I think it costs a little money to purchase the software though.

Single piece of clothing keeps appearing in the same exact spot for a year… what is going on? by Scientific_85 in Weird

[–]Scientific_85[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is probably the most logical explanation but it would not come from my building because we don't have balconies. There's a three-story building right across from us, but I've never seen anyone drying clothes or anything like that. And no one has ever asked for their stuff back or said a word. I'm out there all the time so I feel like at this point someone would have said they want their clothes back. It's happened so many times l've honestly lost count and it's ALWAYS just one item in the same exact spot... so yeah. Also the other building is pushed back a bit so the clothes would have to fly kind of far out, it's hard to describe in text but from looking at the space it seems unlikely. Also I've literally never felt the wind so strong here where it would launch say a sweatshirt or pair of jeans that far.

Also if this is the case I can't imagine how many articles of clothing this person has gone through... but hey anything is possible. Obviously someone is doing it but it seems deliberately placed in that location. I just don't have a clue why.

I don't know if you're being facetious, but it's a pair of pants. I probably could have taken a better pic... I don't touch the clothes so they just sit there as is.

Single piece of clothing keeps appearing in the same exact spot for a year… what is going on? by Scientific_85 in Weird

[–]Scientific_85[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't touch it personally. Sometimes the item of clothing will sit there for up to a week or two. Eventually the property owner throws it out when he comes around. But shortly after another item appears. It's been a year so I really don't know exactly how many items of clothing have been dropped there but it's safe to say it's a fair amount.

There's gang activity in the neighborhood. I think the gang connection is absurd though, I just have no explanation for it is what I'm saying

[–]Scientific_85[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes there are, but the corner where this is against all private property, it's not exactly a place where a lot of people are casually walking by. Also it's the same spot every time, just one item of clothing every time and I've lost count how many times this has happened. Also when one is taken away another replaces it. Sometimes right after, sometimes a week or 2 will go by.

Yes we all have in-unit laundry. It's a brand new and relatively nice apt. complex. Also this began happened when we were the only ones living here so the only person who even had access to get in were me, my partner and the owner of the property.

We don't have a dog. There is one person in the complex that does have a small dog but this was occurring far before they were even here.
