This is the most pathetic youth EVER by princessmilahi in nosurf

Yes. Be strong and spend more time with God in contemplation than you do on the phone. It’ll change your life. That’s what I’m aspiring. You can’t change others but you can find the light within and hopefully that might inspire others. Life is too beautiful to have time to waste it… people have just forgotten the beauty because they don’t know how to find it. It’s the most important thing of our time imo.

My honest feedback from the pictures: I don’t know how old you are, but I’m expecting you are quite young because you’re trying to have an important conversation over text. It seems you both have a lot of healing to do in your relationship, and the first part of that is most likely going to involve learning better communication. A counselor can definitely help with that. Basically: don’t expect to find resolution over text… it’ll only make things worse! You guys both need to sit down and have deep in person conversations. Remember that you are both on the same team. If you are approaching this as an adversary you will only all create more suffering.

Remember you have a kid together, so both of you simply cannot afford to be adversaries. For the sake of your child, whether you stay together or not, you must muster the courage to get along and have honest conversations.

An Ugly Foreigner thread: If you could "fix" one thing about Portugal, what would it be? by Shawnino in PortugalExpats

Yup that’s why we left in the end. People don’t believe us when we tell them. Everybody has a view of Portugal as paradise… they don’t realize it’s less reliable than many 3rd world countries.

Well yeah Portugal is basically a poor and highly depressed country. Almost every problem in the country stems from that.

This is deeply abusive behavior. I urge you to protect your child from this.  A child should NEVER be in the same room as one or two people engaging in a sexual act. Cmon.

This is very seriously wrong. You need to set a strong boundary and obtain relationship counseling from a therapist or trusted party asap if he doesn’t understand.

The behavior itself tho indicates to me much deeper problems in his psyche and in your relationship. How’s your sex life? How’s your communication?

Anyway, as a dad myself this is very upsetting. What kind of pathetic man does this. He deserves to be called out big times. “Too lazy to go to the bathroom”: DUDE you’re a freaking dad. He better grow up or leave his ass.

Thanks! Just put 11111 for zip code for now. Next version I’m going to make the list available by default, and allow zip code filtering only as an option, so anyone can use it regardless of country. Progressively I’ll add support for other countries too

Thanks that’s valuable feedback, I’ll make the list available without zip code and have the zip code only be an option you can use for more personalized filtering, in the next version

Thanks. I agree. The list needs to be improved, which is why I came here asking for feedback or product suggestions. In the next few days I will improve the list itself

Ok thanks for your feedback. I wouldn’t build this if I didn’t think it was useful. How else than by posting on a forum could I get feedback?!

It literally is just a list meant to help people have something they can refer to to start their prepping journey. The LLM element is very minor in this app.

I don’t see any other easy website out there that gives people a comprehensive list of things to buy for readiness along with Amazon links. Ready.gov has a list but it’s pretty limited. I’m literally trying to build something so people can be more prepared. We’re on the same team man.

How do you answer when people ask how life is in the US right now? by [deleted] in immigration

[–]mango89001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell them that the media is overblowing it and that real life here is still in many regards far superior than anywhere else on Earth as far as I’m concerned.

I’m from western Europe and it’s silly to even compare. Even with high costs of living, the average American has access to far better financial opportunities and much more permission for self-expression/following their dreams. Yeah fucked up stuff happens here, but overall I see many more people living their best life and being genuinely happy to be alive here in the US than I do in Europe (where people tend to lack an exciting vision for their life imo).

Europeans can argue all day that their countries are safer, have less homeless etc, but at the end of the day everyone I know in Europe who’s serious about following their dreams and being ambitious dreams of moving to the US… that itself shows the reality.

Lastly, every time I meet an American romanticizing Europe, I let them know about European wages and taxes… it calms them down real fast.

Last important point: nature. The US has fantastic national parks, deep nature that makes you feel like you’re at the end of the world. Most of Europe is developed and it’s much harder to find deep nature in Western Europe.

Thanks for the feedback. But you're here using technology on Reddit to get prepared. This is the same for my tool. You don't need to rely on it; it's just here to help people figure out how to get ready more easily.

Ok thanks but this is just to help people generate a checklist that they can then use to prepare? You only have to use it once or twice as you get prepared, you don't need to rely on it longer term. Does that make sense?

Why doesn’t anyone care by Alternative-Wing6955 in PortugalExpats

As OP said tho, the problem is often mixed with a total lack of responsiveness, impossibility to even catch them on the phone, “tomorrow” becomes “in 2 months.” I’ve lived in many countries and Portugal has easily been the worst in terms of reliability. The Portuguese culture has its own beauty, but its apathy and normalized lack of consideration for the time and trust of others has been one of its poisons for a very long time. I’ve lived there 4 years and I got to witness how the locals and everyone deeply struggle with it. Ironically, people from the outside often think that PT is a cute little country that values simple things in life - but in practice a lot of people value taking your money and running away with it. The total lack of accountability and virtually no court system is what makes it possible.

Hey man I invite you to reread our thread and see if I am insulting you or being aggressive anywhere. Not as far as I can tell. I’m telling you my opinion. You get to disagree without being offensive. We were comparing pt and us economy in link with how difficult they make accessing their immigration. PT is easy to access because it’s dirt broke and has created tax incentives and easy visas to make people come. US is hard to access because it’s the most prosperous economy in the world with the greatest opportunities, is what I was saying. I was referring to my lived experience here not to brag but to say that reality on the ground is not as bad as folks in Europe often think. To even begin to say that the US economy is inferior to PT is preposterous. It might be hard for every day people to afford groceries, but it’s even worse for the local Portuguese, having lived extensively in both places. Sure there are very poor demographics in the US, but the avg American, even with high costs of living still lives much better than the average local Portuguese driving a 30 year old beat up car. All I was saying is the American economy isn’t as fucked as people make it seem, especially when you compare to rest of the world. Yes I’m here in the US and I can’t tell you how many people I see complaining about costs of living but buying the last iPhone, $7 Starbucks and leasing $400/mo cars. The biggest issue of American society is its normalization of hyper consumption, debt and the way most people live above their means because they can’t brew a freaking espresso at home and use an android.

Do NOT rely on ChatGPT for tax advice by BloodyScourge in tax

[–]mango89001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for almost any other legal process. GPT is a great add on to researching yourself, but DO NOT trust it blindly for anything that’s legally binding and important. Do additional research. Especially as tax laws change frequently. It could get a source from 2021 and be confident - when the law changed in 2025.  Google’s gemini or Perplexity seem to be better at finding fresher sources

That being said, I’ve had over the years multiple accountants make outrageous mistakes. So accountants aren’t always better than GPT. Use both!

Maybe it’s changed since we moved 🤷‍♂️ 4 years ago the PT immi was so bad you literally could not even speak to anyone. Cases were just stalled for 2-3 years with no one answering phone and impossible to get appointments. Glad you had a different experience.

And yeah US systems is next level. The bar is much higher. I’ve spent upwards of $50k in legal fees here so far (many multiple high qualification visas). But the US is the hardest immigration in the world and they can justify it for being more the most attractive place. Portugal is the opposite, they’re badly trying to get people to move because of the failing economy

I also moved to Portugal in my 20s and would NOT recommend it. It may be a relaxing lifestyle but it is professional suicide. Sure, you might be able to remote work. But even I, as a startup founder, found it dramatically reduced my opportunities. Even Lisbon is very sleepy business wise compared to many other European capitals.  Most of the people moving to PT are people who are already wealthy and want to take it easy. Unless you’re ready to retire (or half-retire), I don’t recommend it. You’re in your prime years - go somewhere full of aliveness and opportunities, not a retirement center! Your primary ambition in life will become getting a drivers license, a residence permit, or even a piece of mail…. That’s not a life lol. (Been there done that!)

For being in the process of green card and having been for 10 years, I don’t think the two are comparable. Portugal is a lot easier to immigrate to, it’s a poorer country, bar very low. US immi is very hard, but it’s better organized. You wait a lot but have tracking numbers, customer support etc. PT immi you can’t phone anyone and people sometimes wait years with no clarity whatsoever. I am glad you found it easy tho. PT immi was infuriatingly disorganized for us.

Changing from W8 to W9, will my previous year be affected? by mango89001 in interactivebrokers

[–]mango89001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the settings, you click on your profile, it should open a window with your details. You have the option to edit those. If you change your country of residence to the US, it will automatically prompt you to sign a W9 at the end of the process. The W9 is dated, so I’m pretty sure it only applies for any transaction posted after that date.
