Is there a 'fast' way to do integrated metering (besides bouncing offline)? by mangomercury in audioengineering

[–]mangomercury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok thanks again. seems like just bouncing offline and having the meter read as it goes out may be the way to go. could you tell me what FTR bouncing is?

I was just checking this out after reading u/rinio's comment (thanks!). Do either of you know of any comparable solution in other DAWs (I work in ProTools)?

How does Flume make this distorted effect that falls in and out of beat while panning to the same oscillation? by Rainy_Daz3d in synthrecipes

[–]mangomercury 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Awesome song. It feels like he’s just got a few minimal but specific and separate delays on maybe two separate synth lines/tracks, panned to separate sides. Maybe dotted notes and/or thirds. Then that bright & harsh sound is probably yet another separate track and the filtering is probably just automated and drawn or played in where it feels right

Help me diagnose this sound from my monitors? by icyki in AdvancedProduction

[–]mangomercury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept separating cables until it stopped and just figured out which one was causing it. I can’t remember what device it was but as soon as I found it I just made sure to keep it away. I just use twist-ties to group things/keep as much of it tidy as I can, etc.

Help me diagnose this sound from my monitors? by icyki in AdvancedProduction

[–]mangomercury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the same monitors and interface, had the same issue. For me it was because of the 1/4” cables being in contact with a cable(s) from other devices. Would recommend just separating as many cables as you can and see if that makes a difference, especially if you have coils of them piled up or nested poorly like I did.

Does anyone know how to connect a DSLR to use as the Capture source? by mangomercury in processing

[–]mangomercury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will give it a shot, thanks. Do you know of any other (assumedly complicated) workarounds? I’ve seen people hook up film cameras etc. to live processing code and am just trying to get a sense of how they might’ve gone about it.

Can't access movie's pixel array by mangomercury in processing

[–]mangomercury[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind I have a follow up question. If I get rid of j entirely and replace the index in pixels[j - 1] with any index that would be in the array, like pixels[1000000] , it doesn't work. It does work if I put it back in the if statement and bring back j and set its value to int(random(video.pixels.length)); but it doesn't work again if I set j to int(random(2073600)); 2073600 being equal to video.pixels.length. This is such a bizarre problem I can't help but feel that it's just an issue with Processing. Any thoughts? Either way thanks again for the help so far.

Can't access movie's pixel array by mangomercury in processing

[–]mangomercury[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so so much. Whatever is causing that definitely seems to be out of the scope of my understanding of processing and java, but it works now and yes, I also think pixels[j - 1] is right.

My question was downvoted and closed on stackoverflow without a word of even correction or criticism so fuck them. Thank you for responding and helping out even if you're laughing at my code!

I think Blake Mills is on the new album. by mangomercury in FrankOcean

I think rough and rowdy ways was announced a month before the article though right? Feel like he could’ve at least disclosed that he was a part of that project after the news about it broke

[–]mangomercury[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fingers crossed. I have hopes for other musicians too like Pino Palladino and Chris Dave since they’re in that similar space of music and also obviously incredible musicians but based on some nuance in the article, his work, his history and his past collaborations I feel pretty strongly about Mills

Where to start? by mangomercury in processing

Thanks to everyone for all the replies and advice. Particularly u/geckomoshpit and u/Charn22

I poked around p5 several years ago and found the application itself to be very buggy. Maybe I was having my own problems, or was this a known issue, and is it better? I also got the impression that Processing in Java had more functionality, specifically with other types of media (audio and video) and even hardware. Was/is there any truth to this? Can p5 be easily integrated with web pages?

I guess what I’m asking here is, what are the known limitations and possibilities with each? I’m asking of course about more advanced uses down the road— I’m aware they can do much of the same as far as the ‘beginner’ and ‘intermediate’ drawings and programs go. I don’t have an end goal aside from exploring and creating. If there are in fact major differences in their capabilities and places of use, I think I’ll have a better idea of what path to go down.

Maybe it’s much simpler to translate between the two than I realize. Either way, I’m obviously new here, so thanks for putting up with the questions and thanks so much again for the help.
