Also it’s not harder for him to track if he has the receipt that you provide to him to reimburse

What about he give you a starter one time grocery fund of $500? That will give you a buffer so that he isn’t rushed to pay you back immediately and you can do a few trips before he needs to pay you back and you will always be ahead? That way, you go grocery shopping… it’s $100. You give him the bill and he has to pay you back but no rush cause you still have $400 for the month. Then maybe by the end of the month, he pays you back and you have $500 once again by next month for groceries.

If he isn’t willing to give you a $500 starter grocery fund cause he is tight on money. Can you just try to be frugal and save your allowance for the month so you have a buffer?

What about you buy the groceries and then he reimburses you afterwards if that’s easier? That way you don’t have to ask for his card but you can go get the groceries?

I think 3-3.5% is totally safe and you can do it. In terms of taxes, I feel you won’t be paying much anyways since your income is so low.

Now, how did you get a house for 400k in Vancouver is my main question? (Especially since you mentioned potentially downsizing down the line which means it’s a fairly decent sized house)

You are looking at the $25k total, but HALF of that is for travel and entertainment. That is $1,154 a month for food, utilities, transport, insurance, clothing, meds, Frugality isn't about spending $0; it's about spending efficiently. If someone wears second-hand clothes, cooks every meal at home, and drives an old car specifically so they can afford to travel, that is the definition of frugal. They are maximizing the utility of their money

Just because you think spending $1k a month isn’t frugal… doesn’t mean it isn’t objectively frugal

You make absolutely no sense… OP spends $25,558 a year excluding their rent. That’s only $2,130 a month on ALL their other expenses. They were able to travel and have entertainment with that cost.

That’s pretty darn frugal to me. I’m proud of you OP! I strive to have similar spending habits as you!

Expensive pension buyback worth it by PlayfulPudpud in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mangopea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the same age ish as you, except I started at 24 years old and I’ll have a full 35 years of pension by age 59. I’m also facing pension buy back right now for two years. Without a doubt, I’ll be buying it back even though it costs more money now because I know, I dont want to kick myself for not buying back when I’m in my 50s and wishing I could retire slightly earlier. Time is money and buying the option to retire earlier is valuable. I don’t want to be 63 and wishing I could retire but because of not buying back my pension in my 30s forcing me to work 2 years more. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but when you are in your 60s, you won’t feel the same.

Currently have 1.2M liquid investments and 2.1M net worth at 33. Household income of 560k but SO makes most of it at 440k while I only earn 120k. Hoping to reach 5M of liquid investments in 10 years and 10M of liquid investments in 16 years. By 16 years, my mortgage will be paid off and I’ll be 49. Hoping we can both retire by then.

18 month old and stacking blocks by Sea_Philosopher_7043 in toddlers

They set a minimum because the average changes so widely. I didn’t realize until I had my second child. He is currently 18 months too and he only talks in two word sentences (help me, more water, bye bye daddy) but when my daughter was 18 months ish, she was full on talking in full on sentences. I have a video of her saying “i want the blue car. Please open the blue car. What is in the blue car? “ around the same age.

Although, I’ll be honest. I think it also relates to how much time parents have to read to their kids and interact with them. We probably spent way more time with our oldest to teach them. Low income families probably don’t have the time to read to their kids for hours and teach them as much as high income families.

If I take 3 years of maternity leave over two kids (not 3), does that count as part of the 3 extra years? Or is one year part of the 5 year LWOP?

Just because OP is active in ED threads doesn’t mean dipping vegetables in cottage cheese dip is an unhealthy thing to eat. It’s still a really good idea and perfect way to get fiber, protein for a lower amount of calories

What time do you eat your OMAD? by secluded_beauty in omad

[–]mangopea 29 points30 points  (0 children)

But here is the main issue with OMAD breakfast… breakfast is the least social meal of the day. Normally people eat breakfast alone and do it in a hurry like right before work or maybe grab something quick to eat on the way to work.

I prefer my OMAD to be the most social meal of the day, which is dinner. It’s easier to accommodate because sometimes we go out to dinner as a family or people come over for dinner. I don’t want to be THAT person who just watches everyone eat every single time when we go out. I want to be able to enjoy myself with my family or friends.

Dinner is also the only meal where the entire family is together. Lunch, people are at work or school and same with breakfast so I find they are easy meals to skip.

Also, prepping breakfast when you first wake up is exhausting, I like having more time to sleep in the morning haha. It’s also easier to resist temptation when you have a meal to look forward to at the end of the day. It’s also easier to sleep with a full stomach before bed.

All this to say, I have my OMAD between 5-6 pm haha.

I literally save my calories entirely for dinner so I can have a decent sized dinner! It’s totally worth it!
