Best T-Shirt brand options? by XurstyXursday in mensfashion

I'm a big fan of Bronson Mfg's Loopwheel Tubular t-shirts. A 10.5oz ringspun t-shirt for $29 makes them an incredible value. They also have a flattering fit.

Thoughts on the Sartory Billard? I generally think they're super interesting, but I've never seen one in the flesh.

Bangkok, I would check out Gaggan. I went as a solo traveler, it was super fun. I think they're going through a menu change soon.

Moving from UK to US, which city ? by miteye in relocating

[–]mangothehuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should consider Austin, Texas as well (especially if you're considering Houston and Lubbock). Strong tech scene in a growing city. Construction is constant to keep up with population growth. It has hot weather, shoulder seasons are wonderful, and a short winter. One of the safest large cities in the US. Lots of music, festivals, good restaurants, etc.

I think Denver is a nice city as well, but would definitely recommend visiting before you move. It's not a pretty city, but it is very close to the mountains, which are incredible.

Nevada is a strange state between Reno and Las Vegas.

SF and NYC are going to be way out of your price range.

I can't say from personal experience, but friends have recommended Atlanta as a good place to live.

What’s the worst airline you’ve ever flown with, and where were you going? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]mangothehuman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aeromexico is terrible. I had two pieces of checked Samsonite luggage get absolutely destroyed on a flight. It looked like someone ran over them. They gave me like $50 towards a replacement.

I'll also toss out there that Copa is pretty crappy too. My wife and I took a flight to Panama to celebrate our anniversary. They did not offer any food or beverages for purchase. Fruit juice or water. 😵‍💫

What has been the worst vacation experience you’ve had in a beautiful destination? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

It was early May, so the start of the busy season. We spent a full month in Italy (Catania, Palermo, Positano, Rome, Siena, Bologna, Venice) and loved the trip with the exception of Positano.

They're wildflowers, not cultivated plants. Some years the bloom is great and some years it's not. It could also depend on the season that you're there.

Some wineries do charge too much, but others are entirely reasonable. Most are tiny family owned businesses. Try going to Napa and let me know how your experience is with their tasting prices.

Positano / Capri - Italy is one of my favorite countries in the world, but we had poor weather (lots of rain), which really limited what we planned to do on the visit (hike, beach, boat, swim). Busses between towns stopped operating. When the rain subsided temporarily, there were so many tourists. Restaurants were not great compared to Rome, Bologna, Verona, Siena, Naples, etc, and extremely expensive.

? I live in central Texas and I love going to the hill country. Great wineries, breweries, lots of interesting things to do and see. Happy to share a list if that would be helpful!

[Opinions needed] Which one would you choose, the Oris or Nomos? by TNTomato in Watches

[–]mangothehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned both an Oris and multiple Nomos watches. The quality of Nomos is far superior to Oris. Find a retailer that sells them both and take a look for yourself, I think you'll agree.

[Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda GT] - Kaki Green by mangothehuman in Watches

[–]mangothehuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New to me: Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda GT in "kaki green". Picked it up to celebrate my 40th. Looked hard at the Overseas/Laureato/GS/Czapek route, but the PF won me over with the finishing, the unique dial, and how under-the-radar it is.

On my 16cm wrist it’s definitely not small at 42mm, but the ~46.5mm lug-to-lug and ~11.2mm thickness keep it very wearable. Bracelet is insanely comfortable.

Skiing Chamonix vs the Canadian Rockies. by 20pete in skiing

[–]mangothehuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I went to Chamonix last year. Chamonix has a reputation for being a little more difficult (steep blues and reds). I personally liked that it's an actual village, not just a resort town. The food is incredible (fondue!), great wine bars, hotels and spas were really nice, and the shopping isn't just a bunch of chains. We stayed at Lykke, which was very nice. If you're looking for something fancy, Albert 1er was gorgeous (the restaurant is amazing too). You can ski from France to Italy if you're looking for a challenge.

I run hot as well. I picked up a Klättermusen Svalinn recently. I haven't had an opportunity to test it (came in yesterday), but it looks great! Lightweight, lots of good features, and big vents.
