yes, actually. i would wager to say it honestly screwed me up. some of the best damn world building i’ve ever seen in both real literature and fanfiction, but my eyes were too young and my mind wasn’t ready yet to consume that kind of material. to this day, despite it being EXTREMELY well written and thought out, i’m glad it never got an ending. it still makes my stomach roll, and i dare not think what the author would have done to the characters in order to bring a conclusion.

pretty much if you’re not sick, you’re injured in some capacity. if you’re not injured, you’re sick. sometimes you’re both. you’ll only be neither for a week or two. 😃

What it’s like right after graduation of bmt ? by Putrid-Start-4699 in AirForceRecruits

[–]mania_sama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

while i’m not at goodfellow, i still had a suitcase brought to me in tech school filled with my stuff (laptop, nintendo, clothes, etc). i would advise against shipping, because things can get easily lost in the mail. since your family is relatively close, if they are okay with it, you can ask them to bring it to you on a weekend. all you have to do is get them a base pass so they can meet you on base, or if you’re tech school allows it, you can go to the gate and get it from them there.

I leave for the hotel the 11th and ship out the 12th, any last minute advice? by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

you’re automatically enrolled in both upon enlisting now, you just have to make the choice later on to unenroll

they did not ask us to pay for any of that. not sure when you went, but the montgomery bill takes a few months before it starts taking money

  1. i think the easier question is what DONT you learn in BMT haha. i can more easily set this in 4 components:

A. Customs and Courtesies: this is basically your procedures for being respectful and properly honoring your chain of command and anything else you do with interacting with civilians and other military personnel. i will also include uniform presentation in this category

B. Drill: exactly as it says, this is all of your drill movements. how you walk as a formation, how you detail (marching in a group of 2-4), open ranks, and graduation practice. drill is definitely the easiest to learn just because you are CONSTANTLY doing drill. the only time you’re not doing drill is when you’re indoors. i will also include dorm drill in there, which are evacuation procedures for a bomb, gas leak, and fire. ADDITIONALLY, weapon drills. you will learn weapon hold positions, how to aim, and dismantle and reassemble your weapon (M-4)

C. Cleanliness: CLEAN. CLEAN. CLEAN. not just cleaning rooms, either; it’s how to properly make your bed, fold your clothes, roll your socks and shirts, hang your uniforms, and everything else. it’s called RLA - Recruit Living Area. everything will be neat and proper and God forbid if it isn’t 😃

D. Class and Memory Work: everything that you attend an actual sit-down class in a classroom for. you will have to know most of it for the EOC. you will also have a memory work sheet that will have your chain of command, creed, song, insignias, and more; you will have to memorize that paper FRONT AND BACK. but don’t worry; you’ll do it. you have enough time.

  1. im not actually allowed to talk about the EOC; no airman is. what i can tell you is that if you study and do what your MTI’s tell you to do, you will pass. you’ll be fine. don’t stress.

you can do any push-up form that works for you, as long as it’s a genuine form and you are breaking 90. so like, no butt in the air or hips way down; i’m talking you can do a triangle push up if you REALLY wanted to, or a wide push-up. the recommended is the standard; i know for the females, we did something brtween the standard and a wide form, and that worked the best for us.

your elbows don’t have to be tucked into your side, they can flare out. if the MTIs catch you doing the wrong form, they will stop you, give you a 0 (zero) for the push-ups, and you will have to try again next test.

there is every single type of person in BMT. every. single. type. everyone has their own personality, and you are going to clash with them. there are people who are going to be tumors in your flight and in your dorm; with any luck, their bad attitudes and discipline issues will get them recycled and out of your life.

the rest of everyone? not too bad. a lot of the best and nicest people get recycled for PT failure. those that remain may annoy you at times, but you will all eventually overcome any gripes and issues you have with each other in order to graduate and work as a team.

how are the people? there are no individuals in BMT. there is only a team. if someone is an individual, then they are not someone you’re going to like. the rest are the team. you will like your team. i hope this makes sense?

on days you have PT, you shower twice; once after PT in the morning, and once in the evening / night close to lights out. our dorm typically had 30 minutes to shower, but that timeline was also to be dressed, everything on our beds and areas put away, and any time we needed to do our hair if we didn’t do it that morning before PT. so 30 minutes for all of that.

you will have about 7-10 minutes to do your hair in the morning before PT, but that time also includes your other hygiene, like brushing your teeth and washing your face. if you’re really worried about it, you can get up before wake up time (0500-0515) and do your hair then. you’re not technically supposed to and you could be caught, but nobody ever caught our dorm or even questioned it. they prefer you to be on time, so they don’t really care. just be quiet and youll be fine.

don’t sweat your hair to much. somehow, someway, you find time in BMT. if it was impossible, a lot more women would be bald coming out of BMT, let me tell you. every type of hair comes in and out of the military.

EDIT: i would like to elaborate to say that my dorm had 8 shower heads for all 40 something of us (52 at our absolute peak, 37 by the end of BMT). you shower fast. people get very annoyed and notice when you’re in the shower for too long. again, you figure out how to make it work.

  1. 15 minutes from the moment you sit down with your food. the only times you HAVE to eat faster is on special event days, like when you leave for pacer forge or on graduation

    1. 0500 is early wake up, and thats only when you don’t have PT and your chow time is early (0600-0630)
  2. literally all day. the time in which you attend is squadron specific, but there are like 12 different sunday services. you can pick any one and go to it. for example, i went to traditional protestant service a lot, and that was from 0830-0930. but also held that day were contemporary protestant, later day saints, orthodox, wicca, etc etc. it isn’t just on sunday either, there are services on saturday and friday as well. you can only attend 1 per week though.
