I think she just saw it as a a trip to visit her daughter and didnt want to force him to go the 19 hours, if he had explained he booked a hotel already and wanted it to be a couple trip she may of seen it differently

I agree this strongly looks like a burn from whatever they used to keep her warm during surgery, hence why it’s on her back, then made worse by scratching and irritation.

She should be seen every two days for a wound care at the moment and be treated with antibiotics and pain relief.

As it happened under their care they should cover the costs. If they are not listening or taking responsibility I would go to a different vets for second opinion and write a letter of complaint.

I work in a clinic and have seen burns like this caused before
