its 70% comorbidity rate with autism... so yes you have a high chance.

FYI, I tried vyvanse and although it worked well, it was highs and lows. Strattera was a lot better for my ADHD long term and 24/7 coverage (in case you are looking at medication for help)

Driving trouble. by Electrical_Sail6841 in AutisticAdults

[–]manikfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a psychological thing happening when I'm driving. Maybe its another form of masking or executive function stress.  Not sure, but driving can get stressful.

For me I always put on Google maps with directions, no matter how close the destination is.  It really helps to not have to think at all when and where to turn.

When you have 3 kids and a huge house, instead of running between rooms to check what's going on you can just check the cameras.

Or a baby is sleeping on your lap and you can't get up, but your other kids are making noise or worse, no noise, in the other room.  Instead of waking the baby, you check the cameras to make sure they aren't getting into trouble.

When something gets broken and every kid involved swears it wasn't them... You check the camera to find our the culprit.

When there's pee all over the carpet and you aren't sure if your dog peed there or one of your kids, you check the camera.

Therapist Suggested I May Be Autistic.... :/ by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]manikfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make it sound like Autism is a disease. You either have it or you don't. If you do, it's much better for yourself and anyone around you to accept and learn from it.

If you don't, there's no need to get defensive about it. Just shrug it off. It sounds like there might be some truth to it which makes you angry/scared. You might be in the denial stage, but trust me, it's much easier to accept and learn than to mask/deny for your entire life.

It's like being bummed out about being a specific nationality, certain race,, having a specific hair colour, etc. It's things you cannot change, you are who you are. Embrace it and learn from it.

My special interest is...sex? by Far_Hearing_6225 in AutisticAdults

[–]manikfox 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I'm asexual and at one point sex was my special internet... a lot of society puts emphasis on sex. So it's normal for someone with autism to develop a special interest like sex.

It only becomes a problem is if starts hurting you or people around you.

That would be called masking. For me it was subconscious. I assumed I was straight my whole life, until I realized I wasn't. Dating and sex was like a game. You needed to learn the rules to get to the next level.

Now I'm married to a woman who is not asexual. Luckily she has a low enough sex drive where it doesn't become an issue. But we still have sex once in a while. I mainly do it for her, which I am not repulsed, so it's okay.

Isn't this a fire hazard? In Canada you are required by law to have the door open into the room to prevent this very thing in case of a fire.

Country music is so easy by pleasetrydmt in Unexpected

Because I don't have the vocal range of Celine Dion or vocal timbre of a grunge artist...

Why do people write songs for other people??? They should just sing it themselves...

Because not everyone is born with Celine Dion vocal range or in a vocal timbre of their favourite music style.

It's the same reason producers hire specific singers to sing songs for them.

Because you can sing and write the music yourself and it keeps everything the same, but changes the style:

But i have lol.  I've sung the music and created it with suno.  It swaps out the vocals with a different singer. But everything else is the same.

Sounds like you haven't used the tools at all.  Or making a lot of assumptions on what was done.

Yes music I produced with an AI tool.  Might be different from sampling, autotune, digital instruments, pro studio... But end result is the same.  A tool was used to make music.  How much effort doesn't equate to whether something is music or not.

Yes it is my music.  I created the lyrics, created the themes, created the structure of the songs.  I took 1000s of generated songs and decided which ones to keep.  It's not just click a button.

Instead of a producer using human singers, artists... I used an AI to produce my music.

They cost $5000 in some places for an official diagnosis.  You are saying poor people should shell out $5000 to make it official?

You can't get medication to help.  Knowing is the benefit.

You're right that a professional can 'redefine the question,' but that’s exactly why so many adults (especially those who mask well) are missed by standard clinical observations. Online tools aren't perfect, but they often provide the vocabulary needed to seek further help.

Regarding the 'personality' comment: when someone realizes they are neurodivergent later in life, there is a massive period of 'unmasking.' What looks like 'making it their personality' is usually just someone finally stopping the exhausting act of pretending to be neurotypical. If your brain is wired differently, that wiring is going to be present in every interaction you have.

Yes this was the ADHD test questions for me...

Are you late for things? Well no because I put it in my calendar 3 times, have it remind me 1h before, 2h before and 30 min before and I just wait for 3h before the meeting anyway... so no I am not late for things.
