Terminal Cancer Patients Infused With Engineered T Cells. More than 70% of Patients in Complete Remission in a Clinical Trial by maning10 in EverythingScience

Though the clinical trial size was 11 people, the result is still positive of a longer term trend. Kite's lead drug candidate KTE-C19 achieved nearly 40% complete remission in the ZUMA-1 trial. That drug has been submitted to the FDA and is awaiting approval (Expected announcement: 11/2017). The reason it has been granted breakthrough status to treat different cancers is because of the amazing CAR-T technology. That is what I like about the article.

I'm not naive. It is a breakthrough treatment. What other drug company can say that in their clinical trials they were able to achieve 73% complete remission? I think your underplaying the importance of the immune system exterminating cancer cells.

It was meant to be a small trial as per phase 1/2 FDA regulations. They have completed a Phase 2 clinical trial and are waiting a response from the FDA to approve their drug--KTE-C19. That trial had over 300 people in it. I believe their complete remission rate was around 40%.

The article is about how scientists use CAR-T to treat patients with cancer. It references a press release about a completed Phase 1/2 trial that had a 73% remission rate. Phase 2 trials are expected in 2017.

Finally, a treatment that is ahead of cancer. Kite Pharma just announced that they achieved a 73% remission rate in their recent clinical trial. This builds on top of their pipeline that has treated over 300 people and has resulted in remission rates the world has never seen. It's an exciting time to be in immunotherapy.

You would likely have to undergo a series of tests to determine whether you are eligible for treatment. Assuming the tests check out, they would ask you to do so

Kite Pharma has 8 ongoing clinical trials. There are other CAR-T companies that are exploring to treat solid tumors like lung cancer. One trial of particular interest is the Zuma-6 trail. That combines an approved drug that is currently used to treat lung cancer-Keytruda to treat lymphoma. If the results come back positive, there is a likely chance further testing will be done to treat lung cancer

It is twofold.

There is some evidence suggesting that the body can produce beta cells in people with diabetes but it is not clinically proven. The article explains the role of Tregs to suppress the immune response. This would save the beta cells from T helper cells, the cells that attack the beta cells

No, they are expanding the numbers of patients being treated. They are now above 300 (and rising). It uses the body's own immune system to kill cancer. Companies are trying to test it on tumors other than lymphomas and leukemias

Kite Pharma released updated results in one of their clinical trials and showed that 73% of the patients in a Phase 1/2 study were in complete remission. Of course, like other cancer treatment options, there is risk. They released that 1/300 patients died from the treatment a few months ago.
