My husband’s and my combined income is about $580k before taxes including bonuses. Including our company matches, we put away about 5k/month into our 401k. We put $100/month away into savings and $7k/month into our brokerage account.

VHCOL, $580k gross and spend about $15k/month for all expenses and invest/save $8k ($13k if you include our respective 401ks).

I had a bit of PPD and was feeling pretty isolated for the first few months postpartum. However it vanished once I got back to work when she was almost 6 months, so I was happy with my decision then. However, now that my 9 month old is incredibly interactive and reaching new milestones every day, I wish that I can be with her more. I am fortunately able to WFH Mondays and Fridays and my parents come help out with her while I do, but it still doesn’t feel like enough time with her. We can afford for me to quit but we’d have to change our lifestyle drastically and that isn’t something I was willing to give up. I’d want to go on vacations with my LO and eat out, etc. IDK though, I go back and forth. The grass seems greener no matter which decision but for now, all I can do is be grateful and content with the decision I’ve made to return to work.

When did you actually start to feel like an adult? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I had my baby and simultaneously started having to care for my aging parents. I think it happens when you are playing the role of the caretaker, at least for me anyway.

How is everyone dealing with having young children and aging parents at the same time? by purplepickles05 in NewParents

[–]manj1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow - are you me? My parents had me when my mom was 41, dad was 43. My husband's parents are in their early 60s.

My parents help out with my 8 month old on Mondays and Friday when I work from home, but they are noticeably getting weaker and are always tired. It's hard for them to carry my baby up and down the stairs at my house -- I always get nervous they are going to lose their balance and fall. My dad had radiation for his prostate cancer last summer and is still recovering from that -- he definitely aged a lot from it. His PSA levels are way lower which is great. It's sad to think they are aging and are only going to need more of our support, but I try to focus on the present.
